Thanks Capn_Fish for the hint.
The answer is plain simple: both the kernel Chero's post links to and svs57 uploads are for Cxx00 only, not for Cx00.
Last night I was just being over excited and overlooked this most important fact.

svs57, is there a kernel for 860? would the one you use on 750 will also suits 860?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=159825\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yes a seperate C7x0 kernel is needed (860 being same as 760, just cosmetic changes iirc).

I'm starting to wish I had the money to buy a Cxxx0, though did have a C1000 to play with whilst setting it up as a mysql/apache club door entry thing, which was a pleasant change to my C860.

I'd be willing to host Cxx0 files on my webspace. As well as any information/help/isntructions for Cxx0 models.

Easy enough for me to add an extra page as my site runs Drupal

Hi,

I posted a very similar question in the openzaurus forum, here.

Hopefully, someone will have an idea that can help us both.

I finally  found the firmware in the image files for pdaxii3. I don`t know why it`s not available separate. IMHO there`s no big difference between a distribution of the firmware in an image and a package.

The firmware worked but I had to use the orinoco drivers from the file orinoco_modules.tar.gz.

regards

Bernd

You can get them using the orinoco-fw-utils package easily enough.

I'd be very interested in giving this a try.

Some easier to follow instructions would be welcome

I use Debian on my servers (and Debian derived on my desktop), so know Debian reasonably well.

If someone can write a small howto to get this port up and running on a Z =(specifically in my case a C860) and a small guide to getting a environment set up on a debian x86 box to do compilation stuff for extra packages? that'd be great

If I let my studies and work commitments slip anymore than I have done recently I'll be in big trouble  so playing around with my zaurus had to take a back seat till this weekend really I think.

A few post ago I wrote a list of simpe tests to understand how your 860/7x0 touchscreen behaves with this release. Since we are using a pda/mini laptop with touchscreen, this SHOULD NOT be a simple "detail". The touchscreen MUST work properly, since It USED to work properly till beta1.

So...

...please, can you test your touchscreen? Thank you all
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=159334\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I will test the touchscreen when I get chance to. I've been very busy with other stuff, meaning my C860 has sat dorment and untouched for several days now as other things atm are a bit more important to me. Will post here when I get around to it.

I flashed mine without battery at all, AC only. No problems yet.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=159324\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thats interesting. I'll try it again without my battery being in and see if the APM works properly after that?

Thanks to the developers for releasing this.

Yeah the APM issue is still not resolved. Looks like the something (APM?) makes the Z think that it is low on battery and shuts it off.

Also, turning it on is a problem, I'm not sure if I should use the 'Home' button or the 'Power' button-- I've tried both, but I cannot figure out which one actually works since I press both until it finally turns on.

The APM issue is fairly major and critical. I'm gonna go back to cacko I think, need my Zaurus usable on the move

I'm not sure you are noticing the real problem of the touchscreen driver.
1) Can you correctly use xstroke or others writing recognition tools?
2) Can you get correct drawing in sketchbook or xournal?
3) Can you ALWAYS click correctly on buttons and icons?

try xournal; open a new file and tap screen with a finger. If you see strange line appearing instead of dots, than the support is crappy. That's not fine at all.
Thank you in advance for testing, let me know
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158993\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I don't use either of the first two so have never tried them.

As for the third, I'll have to try later perhaps.

Without the powerlead it seems to shut itself down randomly and think the battery is dead when it isn't.

touchscreen unusable on 860. Latest release working: beta1. Why don't you simply restore beta1 touchscreen driver and settings? PLEASE

Touchscreen seems to work fine on my C860.

OK. Gave up with my Socket LP card.

Gave the D-Link DCF-650W a try... it works! after I run the script off of pdaxrom.org.

I have networking working. albeit with a card ive never used (cacko never worked with it, so bunged it in a draw out of the way).

No idea what is causing the socket card ot to work.

I'm thinking I might get an ambicon card and ditch that socket card, seems to cause me nowt but hassle!

WPA would be nice, but WEP works for now.

Seemed to work for me and shut it up about the missing firmware.

Whats odd is I've never had to supply firmwire for this card before??

Seem to have network config issues now though. Will work on them another day I think now though!

OK, using those scripts and with the symbol firmware in place I get the card to come up and have an ip address.

But I seem to have no network activity/access

I don't seem to have a /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware dir, created it and copied the firmware files there, i presume thats right?

Try eth0 instead of wlan0. It seems to depend from card to card. eth0 works for my Symbol Spectrum24.

Also i simply use the LAN&Wifi tool and that still works for me in r197.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=158924\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Seems part of it was it wanting symbol firmware. I'll try putting that in place and see how I get on. The APM issue may force me to go back to cacko once more though
