C3000 As An Usb Host?
« on: February 13, 2005, 08:40:19 pm »
Since Zaurus SL-C3000 comes with an USB interface, I am wondering if it is possible to use C3000 as an USB host? I mean if C3000 can be used as a computer with USB port to which other USB devices, such as USB pen drive, portable USB harddrive etc., can be connected? I checked out local electronic stores which only carry the same type of USB convert cable as the one coming with C3000. So I am think if a type of USB cable, which can convert the USB port on C3000 to a standard USB port on regular computer, really exit? If so, where is it? Thanks a lot!

Yes, a number of us are using USB host.  Check previous threads on this list.  You are looking for a USB mini cable.  iRiver sells one that works.  You can use a USB keyboard and a USB mouse with a C3000.  Check the 5000 list for how to set up the USB mouse.  They figured it out first but it also works on the C3000.

Yep, the iRiver cable is a nice tiny cable to do what you want.  If you want to connect to devices further away, this one works great:
http://www.goldxproducts.com/cable/qus.htm

Don't know where you are located, but Staples office supply store carries this GoldX QuickConnect 6 foot cable that has switchable ends for any type of USB connection you need.  The key to all this is  connecting the Zaurus with a MINI A plug that has 5 PINS vs. the MINI B plug (same size) that only has 4 pins and then having a FEMALE STANDARD USB that will allow you to connect to normal peripherals like usb drives, etc.

I looked on the iRiver site but there was nothing in the accessories section that looked like a useful cable

Have you got a specific reference/part number or URL for this product?

thanks

go into the iriver online store.  there is a search field.  "usb host cable" will get you the device.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens
