5600 pricing?

Is Sharp starting to blow out the remainder of the inventory?  There are suddenly tons of 5600s on ebay, going for around $250 or so.  Also, Amazon lowered their price to $299.

At this price, I\'m thinking about jumping in finally.

I have noticed that also. I suspect the price drop is due to the fact that the current Zaurus offerings, 5500/5600, are becoming dated in contrast to the slimmer, lighter models from other manufactuers. The lack of standard, built-in wireless hurts also. I would like to make the jump too, but I need something that I can use and tuck into a shirtpocket for a couple of years. The current Zaurus is just too big, but I imagine Sharp is working on a more slender replacement to introduce soon.

Well, as the guy who paid $499 a month ago (grrrr), $299 is a terrific deal.

the 5600 fits fine in shirt pockets;
slightly longer;
if you lean over, tends to stay in shirt pocket;
fits in front pants pocket all the way;
can\'t use in back pocket;

the replacement for the 5600 is due in Feb;
my 5600 from Amazon this month for $299 was the PXA255 version

You mean, I worry about getting the PXA250, hesitate on falling back to the 5500, all that for nothing as I (likely) will get a PXA255 ?!!!..

I\'m thinking of upgrading to the 5600, but was wondering how much better than the 5500 it is.  The fact that it\'s got 64meg flash instead of 16 meg is good, but it\'s only got 32 meg ram v.s. the 64 meg ram on the 5500.  In my case, I\'m running OZ off  a 256meg SD card, so I have mine split up with only a minimal ramdisk (60meg ram, 4 meg ramdisk).  Is the faster cpu with less ram that noticable?  What other apps will the 5600 let me run that won\'t work on the slower 5500 (i.e., certain video codecs)?
Also, how\'s the speed of the internal flash memory on the 5600 & cxxx models , v.s.  SD or CF cards?
Thanks.

What is the diff between the 255 and 250? Is this that CPU bug? If it is how do you know the difference when buying from a vendor? Thanks.

You don\'t. The only way you can know is to buy it from an individual and ask them prior to purchase. I have tried asking several vendors and get the same reply....they just ship what they have in stock, and won\'t check, and won\'t let you request one over the other.

Well that sucks. That makes picking one of these up a little more difficult, IMO. God, if the battery life on the 5500\'s didn\'t suck so badly I would buy one (again). Sold my first one because of that alone.

Does anyone know if the processor advertised on the box reflects the actual proc or have there been ones that were mislabeled?

Thanks, Kev
