crap.. I've been itching to get the 3000 for some time now... and I was just getting to the point of talking myself into buying a gift for myself for becoming obsolete

I can't tell if I'd like the new 1000 better or not... especially since it looks like it doesn't have a HD.

hmm... I guess I'm off to email dynamism to see how quickly they will be getting them...

Doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade to anything. Is it going to be cheaper than the 860 (currently around 45,000Y)? Surely not.

It seems the price is still listed as open, but some articles have been stating around 50,000Y. It goes on sale next Friday (3/18).

Well, I just got off the phone with their public relations department (can't wait to see what it costs to call japan on my cell  ), and the guy I spoke with couldn't confirm if the unit had a hard drive.  He said that it has "more than 80 mb of space".  Granted, I don't speak Japanese and he said that he didn't really understand the "hard drive" question.

Anyway, he asked me to email him and he would get a technical person to try and respond.

If the new z comes in at 50,000 yen, then that's only about US$480... so based on that price I wouldn't say it's necessarily an upgrade to the 3000.

hmm.... so much to obsess over... so little time

Google translates japanese to english, try this link:

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...Flanguage_tools

If that doesn't work go here:
http://www.google.com/language_tools

select japanese to english, paste this link http://www.sharp.co.jp/corporate/news/050311-a.html  there

Hope that helps

No, no hard drive.

Again, this would basically appear to be an update to the C7/8x0 line... perhaps a way to bring it up-to-date with the C3000 (C3x00 line?).

In fact, many of the Japanese Z fans are thinking it's only worth getting if you have a C700. The only added benefit may be that it has a USB port, which means it might have USB host (given that it appears to be a C3000 minus HDD). That, and it includes some newer software (such as Sharp's train/subway schedule program).

I'll wait. I'm still hoping for the C3100.

well the pamphlet seems pretty clear to me.  64mb of sdram and then 128mb for storage just like the 860/760.  Like it was said earlier, USB host would be one more tangible reasons to upgrade as well as the D-Pad and the CPU.  I wonder if it does not have the HDD, does that mean it is slightly smaller than the 3000?

Same dimensions, 20 grams lighter.

Apparently a microdrive weighs 20 grams? ^^)

make me wonder.... if ya popped the top would there be a cf connector inside? where the microdrive is on the 3k? That might be interesting.

The new model, SL-C1000, which goes on sale in Japan on 18 March is identical to the SL-C3000 except it does not have the 4GB HD. I expect that it will retail for about $200 lower than the SL-C3000. All the other specs are the same. However, it weighs slightly less, and its dimensions are slightly smaller than the SL-C3000.
Although Sharp is expected to release a SL-C3100 sometime in the future (based on the fact that the Photostorage program includes a reference to this model), there has been no formal announcement.

em...if this is true, it's like an internal upgradable hdd. Win hands down over 3k or 3.1k if the specs are the same.
