From what I understand the only differences will be in the rom.  Most other matters will relate equally.

I am about to buy a C1000 but will also check out the C3000 postings so merging the two would be more convenient to having them separate.

Just my 2 (Euro) cents.

Yes, I agree, the 1000 and 3000 have a lot in common. OTOH, the fact that the 1000 lacks an internal HD makes it related to the Cxx0 family, too, but overall I think that it should either have its own forum (but that would probably mean a multiplication of the forum numbers in the future with every other releases, which might be bad in the long run), or be merged with the SL-C3000 forum. Hey, the traffic right now isn't that heavy on the 3000 forum that we need to separate it from the 1000 forum!

It should be a no brainer, IMHO.  The only difference between the 3000 and 1000 is hdd to flash memory.  The rest is exactly the same.  The cxxx forums cover clamshells with the same hardware except memory layout and battery, so the the 3000/1000 relation is even closer.  Call it the cxxxx forum.

I'm not sure if your forum software supports it but Why not make a 'Tablet form' and a 'Clamshell Form' forum and then put the various models in their own sub forums inside of that?

Tablet  > 5000
Tablet  > 5500
Tablet  > 5600
Tablet  > 6000

Clamshell  > c760
Clamshell  > c3000
Clamshell  > c1000
Clamshell  > ...

except for the form factors, and the cx60  clones the devices are pretty different.
You might as well do vga, no vga
or arm,pxa255,pxa270
really a forum that contained the 5600 and the 700 would seem more profitable than one with the 5500 and the 6000, based on internals.  I am in favor of per device forums, except in cases where the hardware is going to look very much the same to the software.... so 760/860  1000/3000, etc.
It doesn't matter to me all that much, but I hate to think of a new z1k owner following directions for a z700 because he thinks all clamshells are interchangeably compatible.

I'm for Johns suggestion. To the user, it really doesn't matter what is inside. I think it's also tolerable to read about USB-host postings even though you know your device doesn't feature it.

While we are at this topic - of where to place the C1000 forums and where to discuss the C1000 hardware/software, there is also the other side of the coin

When a user posts a question in one forum or in General discussion and talks about a certain problem he/she is facing, either one mistakes that the user has model x since the post is in Forum x, but maybe after a page full of discussion the user reveals that " oh no, but I have a model y" - great for our patience.

It would be beneficial if everyone has a signature where at least the model the user is using is defined so that there is better clarity - both forum wise as well as user's platform wise.

As for me, I think the C1000 should go into C3000 forums, since they both have same form factor, same hardware (except HDD) and both are USB host capable.

Anyone might be misled that even the C7xxx series has USB host capability if the C1000 were to be merged with C7xxx forums.

I don't have a C1000 or C3000, but I would like to offer my opinion based on my observations throughout the forums.

Take the Sharp Rom forum as an example:

It containes messages related to the standard sharp rom, cacko rom, tkc rom, etc.

I am using an SL-5500 with standard sharp rom.

So if I want to read posts regarding standard sharp rom, I have to look through the list for posts that relate to that. And many times, you have to actually read the post before you even know what rom is being discussed in the post. So it can tend to get a little irritating at times.

Also, for me, the same thing is true of the 5x00 forums.

I know this has nothing to do with C1000 or C3000, but the concept of integrating or separating these forums would be basically the same.

This is just my constructive opinion.

Thanks, Doug

My 2c,

I would suggest the merged 3000/1000 forum.

I think most 'user experience' issues are dealt with either in the Sharp ROM, pdaxrom or OZ Forums and that it is useful to have forums focussed upon specific hardware types.... I think these devices are sufficiently similar to successfully group all the 'noise' that is likely to spill into other forums otherwise.

I also think that Mickey's comment about users reading about USB host when they know their device doesn't have that feature is not quite what will happen.... it's more likely that if the more general forums are full of postings about setting up and using USB host that several hundred noobs will post new threads over the next few years saying that they can't get USB host working on their 5500/5600/SL-Cxxx. Just think of the number of 'Does the SL-C860 have USB host?' threads that there already are!
