If you poke around the forums, these drives are hit or miss for compatibility. I ordered one anyway - if all else fails I can use it in my embedded Via motherboard and make a router out of it.

I saw that price and got a few (four - I have some other CF-compatible devices that'll take them).  They arrived today.  They all work fine in my C3000.  I haven't yet tried them in the 5600, but imagine they'll work there too.

** EDIT **

Works with both C3000 and 5600.  But keep in mind, as adf points out, I'm running stock Sharp ROMs on both.

Well, I got mine in and it seems to be defective. (Tested in 3 computers under 2 different OS's with 3 different CF readers, in a 1000, 3000, 860, 5500, an Ipaq 3635, and with a CF->IDE adapter). It's going back for RMA.

Go ahead. Maybe it is defective. They are trash, though. They use non-standard voltage, and are really really slow... causing all kinds of timing errors.

I rma'd one, got another. Had it kinda manually working for a while on my 5600. It was such a pain I traded it for some cable.

bleccchhh
yukk.

NOT a good piece of hardware--- see if you can apply the exchange to something else you might want: You'll be happier if you do.
edit:  it appears they work in the 3k. they don't in the 6k do off and on in the 5600, and are rumored to be ok on the 5500.

Well, nonstandard CF power requirements or not - it should still work in a CF adapter in a computer with a 500watt powersupply. In my case it seems that the electronics were okay (It was recognized properly) but the mechanism never came ready. With the CF adapter the computer detected it, but wouldn't boot with the card attached. I'm pretty sure this card is toast.

If I can get it working in the 3000, that's great. If all else fails I want to hook it up to an embedded VIA board I've got laying around here with that cf->ide adapter and make a low-powered linux router out of it. (To replace the dual Pentium-II monster noisemaker I currently don't need  )

I don't know. People say they have had them working. I have had them lock up processes on laptops and well powered desktops before.

You' ve seen the problem already--- super-high latency. what seems to happenis that the latency causes the thi ng to get disconnected--a lot of "stopping scsi" type errors.

Even when it seemed to be working well, it would randomly die and lock stuff up (again I am talking about my second one here) during large file transfers.

I hope it works out for you..

Well, in my case the bad card *never* starts. I'm not talking about latency here, unless really bad latency is on the order of 10 minutes or more. If it's hooked up to a computer, the computer will not boot until the card is disconnected.

I'll find out, if I ever get it back. I sent it for RMA yesterday : 10-14days shipping.
Computergeeks lists 8?-10days turnaround time. Then another week or two back.
