Cacko Rom 1.23 For C1000 Progress

yup.  those files play on my sharprom just fine.  probably a bug.

one thing you can do is check the feed to see if there is a mp3 codec available.  maybee it was removed for space purpouses.

I can barely restrain myself from reflashing my 3100 and "doing the cacko" (sounds sweeeet) but the thought of losing my Japanese dictionary is a little painful..  For someone who knows close to zero (of course not me...) how can they keep it?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=101650\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

What our dear Smuffle is referring to here is the 'Multimedia Dictionary' located on C3k/C3k1 HD, which is much more feature-rich than the regular c860 dic (600MB vs 40 MB, gotta be something =). While it seems to be the same format as most of other dictionaries (EPW), it is encrypted and cannot be used with third-party applications such as zten(v), at least not directly. Only with SharpROM built-in zdict.

Smuffle, you have two basic options, one is to go to ztenv site and download the patch which enables it to use the inbuilt dictionaries (the site states that it's intended for c3k, but I don't see why it wouldn't work on c3k1); this works because ztenv and zdict are both forks of zten; other options is to copy the files/make an IPK of the default C3k1 SharpROM dictionary. Copying the app alone won't be enough, you'll have to copy the libraries too, at the matching places. The files, along with zdict, would be libeb.so.3.3.4, libsl.so.1.10, libylib.so.1.1.4 and libzsecurefile.so.1.0.0 (at least for C3k).

Let me know how it goes and if you need any additional help (I haven't tried those methods tho, since I'm on a C1k now, but will as soon as I manage to get an additional card - lack of space)

Woot woot!
This is a happy day, my Z setup is slowly converging to a usable state. I managed to get kismet and Wellenreiter working, along lots of other things, also managed to connect to campus wifi - wpa, eap-peap, mschapv2, with buikt-in wpa_supplicant.
Now just to smooth up Jp display issues, and then it will be just some minor tweaking - getting c3k(1) japanese dictionaries, apache+html wikipedia and scummvm to work - only thing that is stopping me from doing that now is lack of space - my 1GB SD is choke full now. I better pay Akihabara another visit on Friday.

Btw, what is the hiragana/katakana key (the left japanese key) mapped to?
Also, what is the best way to run wpa_supplicant when connecting to a specific wifi network?

OK, sorry for being so slow and THANKS for your help. It worked in the end, the problem was basically that after resizing the root partition the Cacko utility rebooted the Zaurus, but the boot wouldn't complete, so I had to force it to turn off by removing the battery (which I don't like doing).

Sorry, I couldn't find a way to remove the battery via software

One other thing though... it seemed like there were quite a few error messages as Cacko was booting. E.g. "Cramfs: wrong magic" and "FAT: bogus logical sector size 381."

Is this normal?

Yes

If you follow instructions in Cacko FAQ if will be run automaticaly when you're trying to connect. Just make sure to have everything configured properly.

The contents of the HDD is not touched when installing Cacko ROM. So all the Gulf cources will be there in place

Thanks for that Tomoe, that's just the information I was looking for.  But before I "do the dirty" I'm still missing something: the Japanese "add-on" so that Japanese charactors are recognised.  ore tte atama ga warui kanaa..

On C3k the files are located on hdd1, but I guess they are in the ROM on C3k1. I'll try to make it work soon, if I manage to, it should be easy to make an ipk.

Btw, were you considering making a Japanese ROM, ie with Japanese support preinstalled and language set to Jp? I talked with couple of my japanese friends who have a z or two, and none of them ever heard of it, maybe that would attract them.
Of course, you'd have to make the golf lessons work. =)

When I switch the input mode to japanese input, the right key works correctly,
ie it switches between kanji (ideograms) and kana ('alphabet'), but the hira/kata key
(this one, the left one) which is used for switching between two types of 'alphabet' doesn't work. It's not a big issue but how would one go about solving it?

Eh, I somehow managed not to read the part about WPA=y.

One more question, what should I do to get both real (not simple) borders AND colors in kismet?

Thanks maslovsky.

That's also doable, just follow any of the four recommended methods in Cacko-JP FAQ (the last one won't work tho, any idea why, people?).
Anyways, would it be a problem to check where are those files I listed located in your C3k1?

First many many thanks to maslovsky and his team.

Flashed yesterday and everything looks quite good.

Maybe someone can open a new thread for bugs and how-to about the new cacko ?!

I'm just wondering if someone here was able to use WPA-PSK with the new release already.
Played yesterday night several hours but wasn't successfull.
...
I just found already a post here.....
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10699
I will follow up there

Thanks again

Torsten

Japanese support seems to work fine with the new 1.23 - suprisingly easy, but you do lose the lurvly smooth helvetica font.

I have a feeling I've lost use of the great C3100 dictionary.. I've tried everything to make it work, also played with Zten but no joy (I tried what I think is the patch (ztenv-c3000_001_none.ipk) but it appears to be "empty" when I try to install - not C3100 friendly me thinks).

Do I have to reflash to the Sharp ROM soley to get a copy of the original dictionary and libraries? (they're not on the CD from what I can fathom).

3:15am.  Pooped.

The dictionary files on the C3x00 are encrypted - you will need certain libraries from the original ROM to use them (if I remember correctly, libzsecure and libeb). The ztenv C3000 ipk simply installs a script that preloads these libraries before starting ztenv. You can confirm which libraries you need by reading that script.
