Having the whole thing on SD is a big plus and probably the only way I can run this. Insufficient Internal Storage is a recurring problem.

Count me in.

Can the package include Thunderbird, or it is early days yet?

now that  you mention it, I could add various x apps onto the cramfs file or have an addon xqtapps.cramfs

now i just need to figure out which apps to include on the cramfs image

I asked for Thunderbird because some of us are desparate for an email app. Does Sylpheed work under xqt?

What you are proposing to do here is just amazing.

If I can help with trying out a beta version then you can rely on prompt feedback.

If you can get it running from an SD card, that would be just great. I've tried out your package, but I ended up getting rid of it since it takes a lot of space on the internal flash. But I'd like to have these apps available. I don't have the time to be a beta tester right now, but I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Meanie,

would it be possible to create an installer ( for C3x00 ), which would automatically
- make a backup of HDD3 to SD
- unmount HDD3
- create a smaller FAT32 HDD3
- restore the backup created
- create a HDD4 in ext2 or ext3
- mount HDD4

and then all the debian, openoffice etc. files could be installed, in a (non compressed) way on HDD4.

Thank you.

actually, i did another method.  I installed xqt and made a list of necessery files needed to run xqt off the sd card.  after i established the bare minimum files needed to have xqt running in the sd card, i managed to occupy only 2mb.  So the other 18 or what ever runs off the sd card.

After i established xqt, i Installed silpheed and gimp.  Both ran off the sd.  I was so happy that i Tried to install debian and openoffice....to my surprise, I cant figure out why i am the onli idiot who cant run those applications.  ext2 even by then wont run.

so.......i got emacs, gimp, and silpheed running off the sd drive while still maintaining all other applications in my system(alot of software) and dstill have xqt.  I am not putting this information out until i really get it narrowed down though.  Im  just trying out various methods........   sucks cuz it is so time consuming.

ok, I've finished creating the xqt jumbo cramfs image. it is about 16MB in size and copies about 500k to the internal storage/flash during install. all you need to do is mount the cramfs image and run the install script which will then create the neccessary symlinks and xqt is installed. potentially, this script can also be used with the xqt-gtk-jumbo ipk package to relink the files after install to SD or CF   now thw xqt apps will be next which should be easy

ok, cresho and bolbit, if you two are still interested, you can test the new xqt cramfs images

simply place all files, xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs, xqt-apps.cramfs and xqt-install into any directory you like such as /mnt/card/xqt or whatever. then just run ./xqt-install from that directory and wait a few seconds and you're done.

i will send you the url for downloading the files in pm.

Meanie,

If you still want testers for the cramfs image, I'm game (as is my C860).

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=100189\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks for the offer but I currently cannot let more people access my server. I am way over my net quota (downloaded too many solaris 10 iso images) so all my net traffic is now crawling like a snail

At the moment, the biggest challenge would be to download the cramfs images. Installattion only takes a few seconds  and I am pretty sure I ironed out all the bugs already.

The current xqt application cramfs comes with the following pre-installed and I have tested them to be working fine

abiword 2.0
dillo 0.8
ethereal 0.10.2
firefox 0.9
gimp 1.2.5
minimo 1.6
sylpheed 0.9.99
thunderbird 0.6
xchat 2.0.5
xmms 1.2.10

hopefully this mix has enough useful applications to choose from
