Your problm is due to IPKG chewing up oz. I am not shure why but to avoid this anoince dont IPKG UPDATE. I had the same thing hapen to me when I first flashed to 3.5.3 it took me a reflashes to figuer out   what was causeing it  more can be found in this therd.

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12280

and in the opie upgrades thread thats sticked at the top

This happens form the command line or from the setings tab the only cure that I have found is to reflash [ good thing that oz never changes the boot loader ]

hope you get your Z working again

I'd not bother upgrading unless something doesn't work.

I would, however, make sure you do 'ipkg install ipkg' as the ipkg which shipped with 3.5.3 had issues. Ipkg will realise that it's already installed and upgrade itself.

Thanks lardman, sure needed to hear that.
Forgive me for the lack of knowladge, my zaurus is only a week old :-)
Pls be aware that th wiki instracts to care out an upgrade. I added a note on that at the wiki.
I also leared the hard way that I need to run ipkg-link after each install.
Now I changed my ipkg.conf so the SD appear first. so now the default instalation is to SD. must I still do ipkg-link?
what is ipkg-link any way (had no luck googling an answer :-(

Ipkg-link makes symlinks from /wherever/you/installed/it to /where/it/would/be/under/root. Without these it just sees whats installed to flash.

This also lets you have most or all of your apps on a cf or sd card, if you have to reflash and dont want to renstall everything you can do a ipkg-link mount /whever/you instaled/your/stuff, and it will symlink in all the stuff in that  dir.

Sorry,   I didnt mean to seam upset at you it took me quite a while to figure out what exactly ipkg-link did, and I just found out that it would remount stuff on exernal media. Thought I might share that, as when I first got my Z was my first contact with linux as well so I went thrugh a great many reflashes learing how to config it. I was just trying to share a tip not show any anger or anything, I just frogot that somthing said seem diffrent when typed.
