Wireless Connection Manager For Oz 3.5.3
« on: August 05, 2005, 03:27:27 pm »
Hi.  I searched every keyword I could think of and didn't find an answer to this, but I do apologize if I missed something.  I'm trying to set up multiple wireless profiles in OZ 3.5.3.  I travel between locations a lot and they all have their own WEP key.  Having to input them all the time is a lot of work.  Is there some sort of wireless connection manager similar to the Sharp ROM where you can have multiple configurations?

Thanks,
Anil..

Ok, so I haven't tried your program yet as I thought some of the internal linux stuff should work.  I guessed wrong.  Through some reading I found out about "cardctrl scheme" and what it does.  Technically it should allow multiple schemes or wireless setups, but its doesn't work for me.  Have you played with it yet?

That's not my work! I'm afraid my scripts don't look that good. It does however belong to the member 2tomcats if you have any questions.

Thanks Greg.  I'll contact him.  I did try wlanswitch out and it does work, although a lot of work just to add more configurations.  I'm totally new to programming, but I might try my hand at something.

I did some hacking to tomcat's script to streamline it for my own use (been meaning to pm him to show him my changes). This 'cardctl scheme' sounds _very_ interesting, especially if the simple instruction from [a href=\"http://www.educ.umu.se/~bjorn/linux/howto/PCMCIA-HOWTO-5.html]this page[/url] work on the Z. Would make wlanswitch a whole lot simpler.

keep us updated (as will I )

Hi Grog.  That is the same page I read, but couldn't get things to work.  I was able to create the new schemes, but the wireless card never picked up the changes.  I did find another page as well listing all the scheme options, but I'll have to look for it again.

I've read several pages but can't test anything right now as I'm on a sharp-based rom (watapon). cardctl scheme _does_ work on this rom, btw. It seems it's the way that the connection manager works.

I'm planning on trying out OZ (hentges) again soon (in the next weekend or two) so I'll do some testing & tweaking when I can.

I wonder what it would take to port the Sharp ROM connection manager over?  It works perfectly everytime.  One of the few things the Sharp ROM has an advantage with.

Anybody get this to work in OpenZ??  I have it installed, but it borks on the card_ctl stuff.  It does copy the configs where they need to be, so you can use it to do a quick reconfiguration.  You still have to go to the network setup app to restart the wireless, or do it in a terminal.
What's this button do??
