Woohooo, joined the Pittsburgh ZUG!  I\'m a grad student living in Shadyside.  Got my Z a couple of weeks ago and I can\'t believe how much this thing rocks!  Glad to see that Taim put a Pittsburgh ZUG  together

Phew.  I hate trying to start topics.

Living in Ross Twp., had my Z5500 for about 5 months.  Love the device, hate the ROMs I have tried so far (SharpROMS to 3.10, OpenZaurus 3.2 and under).  I would love longer battery life, and a cellular CF card.

Too bad it\'s just us  , BUT.  Glad to hear you like your Z.  Is it a 56xx, 5xxx, or a c7xx?

It\'s a 5600.  The battery life on it is actually pretty good.  I know they increased the battery size when they went from the 5500 to the 5600, so I think that helps.  But I do have to agree with you on the ROMs, they\'re  not quite what I hoped they\'d be.  Oh well, I end up using the Konsole most of the time anyway.  How much different are the OpenZaurus ROMs?

probably the biggest thing is package compatability.  OpenZaurus does not by default contain the hancom, opera and jeode packages.  This has probably been recently fixed with the split of packages that Zaurus provides for their ROM packages.

Other than that, you use Opie instead of Qtopia, kernel versions tend to be a bit behind, etc...This is actually quite important as ipkgs are dependant on certain libs, kernel versions, etc...

Hi mmelbert.  Are you as far north as Morgantown or are you farther away?

Sorry took so long to reply.

I am living in Clarksburg/Bridgeport.  About 30 minutes south of Morgantown.

I live in Pittsburgh, yep, the city. I have had my 5500 since March and keep up on the Dev Boards, but to be honest I really don\'t use my Z for day-to-day tasks. I use it occasionally as a serial console and I pick it up at least once a week to play with it, but I\'ve standardized on PocketPCs for the time being. I only hope that OpenZaurus will come up with a new release soon so I can give it another shot.

My main reason for shelfing the Z is the synchronization. While the sharp ROM syncs great, I had many problems with sync in OZ. Hopefully with a new ROM I\'ll be good to go. I\'ve also noticed all the great info on the upcoming SL-6000. That thing looks great. I might have to give it another shot at that time.

Taim: Did you notice that Sprint does make a CF card? All we need are drivers. Then again, the sprint CF card costs an arm and a leg at present....

check out the 5x00 forum.  I asked around, no replys as of yet, however, it apparently should behave with ppp and chat scripts (after doing some serious assumptions).

What\'s nice is that if you have a PPC their CF card can even make calls like the PPCPhone Edition devices.

Since I currently use a Toshiba PPC Phone and am looking to upgrade to the Hitachi PPC Phone this would be of real interrest.

Hi, I also have a Zaurus c860.  Running Cacko 1.21.  Live in Shadyside also.

I'm not that new to Linux, but am not an expert, and I have a lot of fun with this machine.

Does this ZUG meet at all?
