Just so things are clear: I believe Loloc is the owner of DirectFromJapan.net. Correct me if I'm wrong.

true, but since it only quotes model numbers and pricing, it's not too hard to guess what's going on.

the issue of guarantees is another matter.

Errr... no, it doesn't have anything to do with his grammar. Loloc (Loic Acher) participates actively in French PDA forums. Just do a search for loloc directfromjapan in Google. I have bought from him but got the impression that it was a pretty small-time operation (i.e. one person). So I was slightly worried about how warranty support would work out... luckily I haven't had to deal with that yet!

I think full disclosure is kind of important in a forum like this -- if you're advertising your business, make it clear who you are and don't post as if you've just "discovered" a wonderful new supplier.

I just bought a Zaurus from them yesterday. I've send 3 e-mails already, none answered. I guess "quick" answer is a bit faster than that. I will write my experience if/when I get the pda.

<edit> I've just received mail that my order will be shipped in 24/48 hours.

Kind regards,
Raul

It's been more than 72h and I don't have any answer to e-mail. I don't know if my Zaurus was shipped or not. It's not really nice. You don't usually buy something for more than 600$ and want to ask yourself if it's send to you or not.

Cagilaba,

If it is true, good work in clarifying loloc's role with this company.

Raul,

good luck.  I hope that this is legit.

I don't think any business should be added to the wiki until many people have used it with decent reliability.  shirtpocket is an example that even established companies can go bad.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

I'm not saying it's not legit. I'm just worried.

I wouldn't panic just yet.  When I bought mine from pricejapan there was a "transaction complete" sort of notification.... then a wait of a few days.  Wondering where your Z is can drive you nuts, but it doesn't mean the transaction is bad.
