Jumbo Xqt Package Ipk Problems
« on: December 15, 2005, 01:31:33 am »
Installed

xqt-gtk-jumbopack_0.4.3-0.7_arm.ipk

on C860 running Sharp v1.40 from NAND fresh made off Sharp official file set & hand converted to English with Japanese.

After 3 or 4 minutes Install reports "IPKG says Something Went Wrong. Sorry."

But XQT Tab & icons there. Rebooted JIC.

On tap, Startx icon "explodes", hourglass appears for a while then disappears but nothing happens.

Running startx from terminal the first time:

=============================
bash-2.05$ startx

Using authority file /home/zaurus/.Xauthority
Writing authority file /home/zaurus/.Xauthority

qtApInit
Display size = 480x640
could not open translation file /home/QtPalmtop//i18n/en/libsl.qmid
=============================

The display sits at this point for a while then XQT starts & seems normal. On exit the terminal display continues with:

OK, so I have a bad habit of not leaving stuff alone (G).

Decided to see what I could dig up on my own. Here are some more data found.

Just a thought, Miami Bob....

Did you do a checksum on the file you downloaded before you tried installing it??

Have had issues with that in the past that affected an install...

But it could be something else...

Should be, Felipe. Started with a clean, minimal installed system just for that reason. More than 50mb free per SysInfo before the Jumbo.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Mark -

Unfortunately I don't find checksum info for this file anywhere (so far).

However, the archives & tar balls expand at every level without any problem, so I would assume that the file integrity is uncompromised.

What am I not seeing here, oh ye Lords of Jumbo?? (G)

You'll find that info here, lil' grasshopper Miami_Bob....

http://www.chuckster.org/zaurus/

BTW, doesn't matter whether the file appeared to download OK or that you can unzip it....don't ask me why, but sometimes there's a difference between downloads...a bit here and a byte there I guess...

Ahhhh SO-Oy VAY! What is the sound of one hand clapping (an idiot on his own head)?

All I can plead is advancing age, Mark. If it were a snake, I would have been well bitten, indeed.

Of course, what happened was that I UNzipped the original file then, since the ZIP is bigger than the IPK, thus no longer needed, deleted the ZIP.

THEN, on going hunting for checksums,  I (of course) searched on the IPK extension having forgotten entirely that the original was ZIP'd. Duuuhhhhh.

Sir! No excuse, sir! But makes an amusing anecdote (G). Now if only there were an ANTIdolt! (G)

Oh well. Always time enought to do it over "correctly". Whats another 15 Mb download anyhow? (G)

Thanks.

OK, Miami_Bob, so if a man is shouting in the woods and his wife is not there to hear him, is he still wrong?.....

LOL. I always prefered the version:

"If a man whispers in the forest and a woman is not there to hear him, is he still wrong & in trouble?"

Too much matrimony will do stuff like that to a man. (G)

OK. New downloads of Jumbo pack & AbiWord 2.0.0.1 give the correct checksums and compare byte to byte identical to the first pair. So, no joy there.

I restored an NAND of a well working XQt system that I had hand assembled a while back & installed the AbiWord 2.0.0.1 package. Ran it, fixed the depends, reran it - loop till no more "missing" library files - and in the end, it launched, gave a LONG string of WARNING messages & PANIC yelps then aborted.

From the lines that did not scroll enirely out of RXVT's buffer, it appears to me that the AbiWord 2.0.0.1 package is built on a higher version of the GLIBC library package than the v2.2.2 built into the C860 ROM.

I tried to hack around this once before and was given extensive lessons in the Zen of Unbricking a C860 when you don't know WTF you are doing. (G).

Has ANYONE gotten the Jumbo Package &/or AbiWord to run properly on a Cx60 system?

Computers - gotta love 'em; they keep one constantly humble [G]

Not exactly... I don't have a Cxxx but I have made it work on my 5600 with the cramfs.

Just unzip and place the xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs, xqt-apps.cramfs and the xqt-install(10-Dec) in the same directory and run the install script. I had to install them on my SD-card but I 'believe' (you may want to read Meanies instructions) you could create a directory in your /home (if there is room) and this would link up without any problems?

If it doesn't work properly you can use the xqt-cleanup script.

Here:
http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/

The only problem I had was my little screen size and trying to use it...

OK, Greg. With that solid endorsement, I'm downloading the cramfs packages "as we speak" (G).

I became gun shy of cramfs after an unplesant & futile attemp to get the necessary extra loop backs to work. However, I'm noting if not game (or did she say 'gamey' instead?).

I KNOW that XQt runs because my "roll your own" works, but I itch to compare several packages that I can't get to run on my own build.

Thanks! And Happy Holidaze.

Jumbo Xqt Package Ipk Problems
« Reply #13 on: December 18, 2005, 04:23:18 pm »
Greg -

If I wore a hat, sir, I would take it off to you and to the Jumbo cramfs team.

That was one of the easiest package installs that I have ever seen. No long sequence of one unsatisfied depends after another! BLISS! And everything appears to be functioning right, so far.

Thank you, again, friend!

The jumbo cramfs was my idea. There will be a new xqt-mozilla cramfs because the current one doesn't work properly. xqt-bochs will also be added to the xqt-apps cramfs soon.

I am also going to repackage and update all the standalone xqt ipk packages as well.

check [a href=\"http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/jumbo/xqtjumbo.html]http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/jumbo/xqtjumbo.html[/url] for more details.
