Text Editor icon stuck on taskbar
« on: February 13, 2004, 03:29:10 pm »
I have this problem both on tkc Rom and Sharp 1.32.  If I use Text Editor and then exit.  Text Editor\'s icon stays on the taskbar.  From time to time the text editor keeps loading on its own.  I can only reboot to get rid of the annoying icon.

Does anybody know how I can fix it?  Or if there is no fix can I somehow unistall Text Editor (I know that it is part of Sharp Rom but I guess it is still possible)?

Thanks

well I\'m not sure what the problem is or how to fix it, but instead of rebooting you could always kill the app from the console.  Use ps to find the PID and then kill it with kill -9 <PID>.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

Or if you\'re not comfortable with the command line, you can install this app and then kill the application from the listing. http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=320

If it\'s the opie text edit for sharp roms killing it doesn\'t help, the only solution I\'ve found is to just restart qtopia

I too have this problem and the only solution is to remove the icon from the taskbar is to restart QT.

An icon on the Qtopia taskbar does not mean that the application is still running. Instead it means Qtopia didn\'t see that the app closed and hence a restart of Qtopia is about the only way to clear it if opening and closing the app again does not sort it out.

Tapping the icon launches the app again because Qtopia always emits the QCOP message \'raise()\' when tapping an app\'s icon on the taskbar. If the app is not running when a QCOP message is sent to it, then it automatically gets launched.

Has noone found a solution to this problem? I just installed opie-textedit_1.0.3_arm.ipk to help fix the problem the sharp editor has with scripts & linefeeds. Of course it works fine, but the icon stays on the taskbar and restarts textedit whenever another app exits. Textedit is not running, so it can\'t be killed.  I hate to go back to the sharp editor. And can I? The opie texteditor loads on top of the original. If I uninstall it, how do I get the original back?
I\'d rather have a solution to the icon problem...

I had the same problem with opie-textedit_1.0.3_arm.ipk and went to qpe-textedit_1.4.0-1_arm.ipk, which doesn\'t get stuck.

I use vi to edit scripts, so I don\'t know if this version of textedit has the same linefeed issue as the Sharp editor.

Yes, you can always get the Sharp one back, since it is in ROM.  It is just a matter of symlinking to /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/bin/textedit.  You\'ll also need /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/binlib/textedit.so and /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/help/html/textedit.html.

Thanks for the info. I may restore it. But for right now, I renamed the editor from qtopia-textedit_1.0.1_arm.ipk to textedit and copied it over the opie editor. This editor has the same features and works right...
