6Gb hdd, thats the next model, geesh Sharp is really thinking big now....errr, I'm not upgrading

Me neither, I'm fine with the 860 ... this year.

Not much different besides that hd size, though, is there? I just skimmed a quick Babelfish translation of the webpage and saw nothing else much new.

well, Sharp did abandon the US market which is where the bulk of the English speaking customers are, but now with this new Zaurus that teaches English, there is a great new market of about one billion people who are trying to learn English in China. If you follow the ads there, one of the hottest things that's selling there are electronic dictionaries and English teaching aids. This 3200 could be the killer app there if Sharp decides to be smart. I have seen the Zaurus being advertised there as a versatile multimedia reader and dictionary, but there was no mention of Sharp nor the Zaurus brand except if you look very closely at the little device you will notice the familiar shape, the keyboard, the swivelling screen and oh that blue sticker that says microdrive inside and if you run it in slow motion, you will see Sharp for half a second. I can't wait to get my hands on an out of the box Chinese version of the Zaurus. I would upgrade to one of those.

Are these Chinese models significantly cheaper than the "original" Zauri?
If so, and if the specs are iddentical otherwise, we should try to find a way to get hands on these devices...

yep I predicted it. Microdrive hardware upgrade and some possible software enhancements. Sharp's too predictible now.

Looks like the UMPC will be the device to get. You'll get a full PC for the size of a paperback novel and better battery life.

The next Z needs to be radical and smaller. The UMPC is still too big to be pocketable

i think it may not a real next model.
It's too little upgrade on hardware and even software.

i think Sharp wants the CXXXX model become a high-end multi-function dictionary, learning English machine.
Even a newer Z came out, CXXXX series may not fade out quickly. Because Z can still sell as a dictionary/music/video machine.

Really, what a let down ! AFter all the wait and so many page refreshes on all tech sites - this is the ultimate let down.

I guess Sharp is slowly abandoning the whole concept of a Zaurus as a Laptop replacement and going more toward specialised learning/dictionary/mp3 player etc kind of tool.

Even I think its time to move on beyond the zaurus - too bad none other device has such a cool form factor and a good keyboard too to boot.

The google translation of the web page talks a lot about "animated picture" which I guess means video and "animated picture file conversion software" to convert TV programs to the Z. Does anybody know anymore about this?

I must admit that my first reaction to the SL-C3200 announcement was one of disbelief. WiFi & BT seemed to be the next logical progression. Though Iâ€™m seriously disappointed, I have to remember that I am not Sharpâ€™s intended market for the Zaurus and the Japanese market seems to be very happy with it.

After the failure of the 5000, 5500, 5600 and 6000 to gain worldwide acceptance, Sharp has chosen not to relaunch the Zaurus on the worldwide stage. Even when the revolutionary SL-C700 appeared on the scene, Sharp never attempted to sell it outside of Japan. I believe they have decided not to compete in the worldwide PDA market and have since found a niche in the dictionary/language translation market and they were able to use the Zaurus to show case their VGA LCDs for handhelds.

If Sharp re-enters the worldwide market, it appears that the W-Zero3 platform is the one they are hanging their hat on. Has anyone else wondered why they used the â€œWâ€ for Windows to name this device? Could it be that an â€œLâ€ for Linux (L-Zero3) is in the works?

Is the 3200 signaling that Sharp is no longer working on innovations to the Zaurus and we shouldnâ€™t expect significant changes in the software, kernel or radical new hardware upgrades? Or is Sharp planning a very significant upgrade to the Zaurus (kernel, software, hardware) and the 3200 only means they ran out of 4 GB drives and replaced them with 6 GB? Time will tell.

The Zaurus with integrated 802.11g and BT would make it near perfect for me. If this doesnâ€™t happen soon then UMPC here I come.
