Openzaurus 3.5.4 Released
« Reply #45 on: March 22, 2006, 11:01:20 am »
Hi,

I'm using 3.5.4 release, C860, Opie.  Had to repartition after cacko, used 53MB as suggested.

Couple of questions.  When I boot, it take me through the language/doctab/time config dialogue every time.  At the end it gives me the following error
"out of space - unable to create startup files.  Please free up some space before entering data".
This is probably related to my second issue; every time the machine awakes after suspend, or after inserting the cf card, I'm prompted to configure it, even though I do configure and save it each time.  It doesn't seem to keep track of the card.

The font in opie-console is extremely small and very difficult to read.  Any attempt to change the font size, font or colour scheme causes anything I type in to be double-spaced and indented to nearly the centre of the screen.  terminal output is fine e.g. ls will look like
Quote
"root@c7x0:~#                       l                s "
But the output from the command will be normal and in whatever font size I've specified.  Can anyone else verify this?  And the changes aren't saved if you close opie-console and then restart it.  This doesn't happen on my 5500 running 3.5.4 release.

File manager won't allow me to copy files, however I can do this perfectly well in opie-console.  I've been using file manager on the 5500 and it doesn't give me any trouble.

How do I add extra ttf fonts?  I've moved a few into /usr/share/fonts/truetype but they aren't picked up by appearance etc.  I ran /usr/sbin/update-qtttffontdir on the off chance that this performed some sort of import, but it gave me a segmentation fault.  I'd say I've missed a step, in that the Deja font in /usr/share/fonts/truetype shows up with a question mark icon, whereas mine have blue cogs.  Am I right in guessing that this means their magic number is different, or is it simply a rwx matter?

I haven't strayed from the standard setup, and I haven't installed any new software.  I'm concerned that these problems mean I'll have to do a nand restore at some stage, so I haven't spent any time adding new packages etc.  I reflashed a couple of times, but I'm still seeing these errors.  Are they happening to everyone?

Thanks,

hQuin

hQuin: rm /home/root/Settings/* and reboot.

if you will still have those 'no space left' messages then do nand restore to have proper partition sizes and then flash oz

Hmmm, stranger and stranger.

/home/root/Settings is a dead link to /home/zaurus/Settings.

There is no /home/zaurus, and there is no 'zaurus' user in /etc/passwd.

I've checked this situation against the collie with 3.5.4 installed and the Settings folder exists, and it contains various .conf files.  Incidentally, it holds the changes to the profiles in console, so that would tie in with the Settings folder being available to it.

I'm guessing now that one of 2 things is the case.  Either I somehow have legacy data from the cacko install (or the pdaxrom install), or that the sequence in which I flashed to various oz images (opie, opie, e, gpe, opie) has ruptured my setup.  These errors were present from first oz install, so I reckon it's cacko.

Any advice on where to go from here?  rm -rf * and a reflash?  I'd prefer not to do a nand restore out of mortal fear of bricking the machine.

Thanks,

hQuin

rm -rf /home/*

Opie should re-generate its own config files (he says ).

Excellent, that's taken care of the display issues.  Fonts, icons everything is a good size and settings are being saved.  It took care of the issues in opie-console, too.  Since I removed /home/* the console font is easily legible and doesn't indent when I change it.  Thanks lads!

I'm still having the issue with file manager though.  I can't copy from one pane to another; it still gives the "could not copy" error.  Also, I can't change from one pane to another unless I specifically select 'view -> switch to view #'

If no-one else is reporting this issue, again it must be some legacy stuff from my previous installs.  Is there anywhere else I can clean up?  Looking at the output from 'mount' would suggest not i.e. the only non-root mount point is /home.

Thanks,

hQuin

Is any work around to OE bug 538 (top row of the built-in keyboard does not generate the correct keystrokes
when using them with the Fn key to type numbers on Tosa (SL-6000))?
This bug is real show stopper for OZ-3.5.4 on Tosa.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=119550\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

fixed - do 'ipkg update;ipkg upgrade' and restart - add note in bugtracker if it works OK.

Thanks for the hard wotk OZ guys. Since yesterday, I flashed both OPIE and GPE on my collie. Both seem much better than the last release. Now on OPIE, I am trying to get KOPI working. It seems to install correctly to CF (40-24 zImage) other than some "failed to link messages, which also show up on other packages (portabase, hexatrolic) which run fine, but KOPI won't execute from the icon. I have installed;

libmicrokdelibs_2.2.5-r0_arm.ipk
libqpe1_1.2.1-r0_collie.ipk
libqte2_2.3.10-r27_collie.ipk
kopi-applet_2.2.5-r0_arm.ipk
kopi_2.2.5-r0_arm.ipk
(didn't see an icon ipk)

...in several different chronological orders (not sure if that makes a difference), but no go.

I try OZ on every new release hoping for some issues to be resolved and this one seems to be the one as the progs that did install run smooth and fast, but KOPI is a must for me. So far, I sync my KOPI data via file, between my other collie with tKc rom and both partions (XP/Mandrake) of my desktop. I'm sure it
must be possible with OPIE, as it is in the feed, but can't figure what I'm missing and/or doing wrong.

On GPE, I didn't have any sound. Should that be present from just installling, or does it require cofiguration?

I'm trying to actually have some *fun* with my Z (yah I know, it's ALL fun!! ) by installing a couple of games under GPE. Both plinciv & supertux install to my sd card ok, but they both give different errors:

Code: [Select]
grog@grond[pts/1][/home/local/bin]$ supertux

The file exists. Why can't the program find and/or load it?

Code: [Select]
grog@grond[pts/1][/home/local/bin]$ civclient

2: For sound support, install either esound or SDL_mixer

(civclient:17747): Gdk-WARNING **: gdk_property_get(): length value has wrapped in calculation (did you pass G_MAXLONG?)

[...snip multiple errors...]

The program 'civclient' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 4912 error_code 8 request_code 70 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Thanks for the help.

3.5.3 opie on collie...64-0

 SD card does not show in card manager, although it shows up in fdisk and as /media/card so maybe no big deal?

I got a few questions regarding OZ

1. does the fbvncserver in OPIE support the C3x00 models, ie is the keyboard mapped correctly for those models or has it only been recompiled?

2. is firefox and jamvm integrated, ie is there a java plugin for jamvm or any other java clones) that enables java applets in firefox?

3. since the openoffice port requires glibc 2.3 and OZ GPE is using 2.3, will openoffice install and run in OZ?

4. is it possible to install both OPIE and GPE and run them concurrently via a fb?, ie run one environment in the foreground while connecting to the other via a vnc client?

5. can I run my existing Sharp apps, ie the dictionary and translator applications on OPIE using compat libs?

6. can Chinese support be installed by simply installing the chinese locale and chinese fonts?

The file exists. Why can't the program find and/or load it?

Though the error message doesn't really indicate it, I wonder if it's expecting to find the file in a certain location (and not prepended with /media/card1/packages/) ?

Try running 'ipkg-link mount /media/card1/packages', then run the binary from its ipkg-linked location.

I found out that it is a problem with the sound file itself. Not sure what it is exactly (yet), but the games runs best using the following wrapper:

Code: [Select]
grog@grond[pts/1][/home/local/bin]$ cat supertux
#!/bin/sh
# a wrapper for supertux

exec /usr/bin/supertux --fullscreen  --disable-sound
With no sound, of course , but it runs. I'll keep hacking at it to see if I can figure it out. thks

btw, in case anybody else wants, here's my desktop file as well:

Code: [Select]
grog@grond[pts/1][~/.applications]$ cat supertux.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=SuperTux
Comment=SuperTux
Exec=supertux
Terminal=0
Type=Application
Icon=/usr/share/supertux/images/title/logo.png
Categories=Games
StartupNotify=True

enjoy

Hello, I have now OZ 3.5.4 OPIE image installed SD (altboot - real ext3 fs on SD), but I'm little bit disappointed by this distro. First I have problem with resolving names. I have zaurus in cradle and over USB there is successful link (I can ping IPs in internet). But I can't set my DNS servers:

Code: [Select]
root@znax:/# cat nameserver 213.46.172.36 > /etc/resolv.conf
-sh: cannot create /etc/resolv.conf: Input/output error

If I set DNS servers in gui (network settings) nothing happend. I still can't resolve names.

OK, so I entered openzaurus mirror to /etc/hosts and try to install some new packages. But another problem. If I try to run update I only get error 5. I have tried run that in console and I get this:

Code: [Select]
root@znax:/var/tmp# ipkg update
