Newbie Needs A Bit Of Help
« on: March 18, 2006, 11:08:46 am »
Hello everyone!

I have just installed the cacko 1.23 (full) onto my c1000. I purchased a Netgear MA701 wifi cf card and am having a bit of trouble getting the thing to work. It seems to recognize its existance but will not connect to my network. I have configured my router to run with no security (to see if the wep encription was a problem) to no avail. This is all new to me! Can some one help? THANKS!

I've had the ma701 before and it is very compatible with the zaurus (it worked with every rom out of the box for me).  Is this card brand new (or purchased used)?  Is there a space in the essid name?  You are using infrastructure mode (not ad hoc)?
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

The card is brand new (refurbished) I purchased it from e-bay and it came in the manufacturers packaging.
The ESSID name is the name of my network right? I have been using this as my network name (broadcasted by the router)
I usually use 'infastructure' but have been trying with ad-hoc (I have been trying everything for that matter)

Thanks!

I finally got my wifi card to work in cacko 1.23 on my C860 by going into the  /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf file, and editing out every card except the one I'm using. Details on what to do are here: [a href=\"http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/cacko-faq.html]http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/cacko-faq.html[/url]
About halfway down the page.

As to how to do it, use Midnight Commander to edit the file. Navigate the left-side file tree to /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf, and open it by pressing {cancel}+4. (Or whatever the equivalent of control+4 is on the C1000's keyboard.) HIghlight everything you want to delete, and bingo. Close, saving your changes, and reboot.

That worked for me, anyway.

Hey Everyone!

Thanks for the quick suggestions and help, looks like it was a problem w/ my router settings or something. I have the Zaurus going wireless but now my Notebook (XP) can't connect!?? I guess this is the last straw for Linksys and I, going to convert entirely to NETGEAR.

my advice is not to go netgear.  They work great at first, but I have not one piece of netgear equipment that has not failed prematurely.  BTW is you laptop trying to hookup using 802.11g?  That would be the problem there

While you were playing with the router settings, did you inadvertently change the encryption? I've done that.

Make sure your encryption string has not changed.
