Openzaurus 3.5.4.1 Testing
« Reply #30 on: March 22, 2006, 04:35:10 am »
I was just about to log my OE bugs (thats the problems with dependencies and packaging right?) but the OE bugzilla only gives OZ 3.5.3 (or Familiar) as an option right now.

Unfortunately the Z is back running Cacko now so I can't test any fixes but just so I don't forget there were 2 other GPE bugs I didn't mention

under the screen control panel, the brightness slider would slowly move down by itself after making an adjustment.

The USB options didn't work, but I think thats a known bug. If I remember correctly, aren't the SD and  CF slots bundled into one option? How is that meant to work

Someone told me that Yahoo! mail would work under dillo but it didn't for me. I presume minimo is in OE, but what about gtk+ webcore?

http://gtk-webcore.sourceforge.net/

Alongside minimo (if it works now!), thats got to be our best option for a decent browser on our Zs. Who do I hassle to get this into OE if its not already?

Bug 1582
Quote
when running gpe-conf network as a 'normal user' (not root), the applet asks for
root password but after making changes the applet will complain "No write access
to network configuration".

So network access modifications must be done as 'root'.

The gpe-mini-browser that is installed by default uses gtk-webcore.

my usb mouse is not detected by default.

doing a 'modprobe usbmouse' makes it detected by the system... dmesg provides something like :
Quote
input: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. SCE USB MOUSE as /class/input/input4

but there is no cursor... i think it was working fine with previous test5 gpe image for c3000

any idea ? bug ?

About 'popping' - by default no USB drivers are loaded. Use 'Settings/USB settings' (or how it was called on GPE) to select which USB Client functionality you want to have enabled.

this seems like not working but modprobe g_ether (for usbnet)  or g_file_storage (for usb mass storage) works

so far so good
I like 3.5.4.1-alpha! much better than SharpROM

I tried accessing mail.yahoo.com with the GPE mini-browser and it didn't get past the first screen. webcore is based upon konqueror and konq has been able to deal with Yahoo! mail for years. I wonder why it doesn't work then? They didn't remove javascript for the GPE browser did they?

Problem fixed...  problem existed between the stylus and the chair.

Also, GPE is super fast on my C1000.  I like it.  Thanks Hrw and crew.

In the installation instructions for C3100 it is stated that OZ will be installed to the hard-drive instead of to flash. Is this still the case? Isn't there any way to install to flash instead, seems like a bit of a waste not to use the built-in 128 MB flash rom...

that would be nice, can you? Actually working on all the bugs(if any) would be the priority probably...

Please keep in mind that most folks really do not want their rootfs on flash when they have a large HDD available as this would bring back all the problems caused with ipkg-link once you try to install apps to HDD.

Having a large rootfs is a very nice thing and simplifies things for most users.

Also keep in mind the flash is much slower than the microdrive. Using the microdrive gives quite a performance gain. Sharp couldn't do this in 2.4 due to kernel limitations that no longer exist. I doubt OZ will release images that use the flash for these reasons although you could easily build them using OE after changing the fstab/kernel commandline.

I'm having trouble install instaling python-pygtk2. It can't seem to find python-core. It's in the python feed. Going to have to do it the manual way, downloading the ipk & installing. I'm finding the package manager very slow, perhaps it's the long list of ipks. Command line works better if you know what you you want/need.

I really like GPE, it has lots of potential. especially like the security lock on suspend feature. Also the GPE mini browser is very good, fast.

Cheers,

Note: this is not a flame, I'm interested to know the answers that's all.

how so? I've seen quite a number of post stating that  3100 has more internal flash and that it makes it more responsive during suspend resume. Where is the performance gain?

What kernel limitations are you talking about?
Thc has built a pdaxrom version using 2.4 kernel and / on the micro-hd
