I hope this isn't a hijacking,
GPE has its browser, and presumably firefox and dillo.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=120372\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

GPE can use gpe-mini-browser, osb-browser, minimo, firefox and dillo2. It shouldn't be too hard to add epiphany and galeon to OE.

How is web browsing done in opie these days? Sure not the 5-year old embedded konqueror with compat-libs?  Compat-libs and opera or netfront?  Is there somehting nice and new and native?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=120372\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Still the 5 year old konq/e (without compatlibs), although the Opie people now have a recent konqueror working (with tabs, javascript, css, etc), but it requires a multithreaded qt/e which is ~700kB bigger as a unithreaded qt/e, so they are working on making qt/e smaller first (collie has on 14MB of flash).

might be grounds for insisting on a collie sd setup?  It sounds like the extra 700k would confer some real benefits.

If OE was only about supporting zaurus machines, yes, but it needs to support a lot more devices with 16MB (ipaqs, simpads, devboards, etc) of flash, so getting qt/e-mt down to the size of regular qt/e is the way to go.

With c3x00 machines such dualboot is possible.

2.6 kernel in flash, OpenZaurus on first uDrive partition.
2.4 kernel on disk, pdaX in flash (and on not first partition if needed more space)

boot 2.6 from flash, use kexec to load 2.4 kernel from disk, boot it and it will start pdaX from flash.

Send me c3x00 machine and I will write howto and add needed tools to base system

Get a 3200 then send the 3100.

From my half-hour, GPE seem sa big bastard to use compared to Shap/QT, although on the other hand, it's alot faster. I'm a bit sour because every time I try and install any friggen packages, something goes wrong.

Has ALOT of potential, but for now, not on a 5600. . .

How the hell am I going to get my OS back?

OOH OOH! Now I remember! My key point about GPE is the decent login system! I like it! QT login sucks.

need to work out how to fix this rom.
Bugs I've seen on Poodle:
Occasionally goes very slow for no reason (Reboot and is fine)
Process Manager doesn't work at all! (And wouldn't be very featured if it did)
Cortana: PXA250/Poodle: OZ/GPE 3.4.2RC1

Remember that GPE runs as a non-root user by default. So when you become root use 'su -' to ensure that you get /sbin & /usr/sbin in your path. If you don't do this you will not have access to lots of binaries such as 'ipkg-link'.

I can't send u my 3200 as I need it for work

...but this is something that maybe people would be interested in trying if it could be added to the oz wiki perhaps?

It would allow MD-based users alot of flexibility & also give us the chance to evaluate for ourselves what's the most appropriate ROM for our needs...I'm wanting to do some code development as well as use my 3200 as my replacement laptop for work usage, and at the moment I'm having to use both opie & gpe as a consequence.  This sometimes leads to problems (particularly with apm), so pdaxrom is looking an attractive alternative.  BUT,  to go over to pdaxrom is, at the moment, "burning my bridge" with a very-nearly useable system, which I can't afford to do right now.  So, in the long term, being able to evaluate a flash-based ROM alongside a MD-based OZ ROM would be a fantastic bonus.

Any comments appreciated!
