Cacko Rom And Sl-c3200
« on: March 22, 2006, 12:22:49 pm »
Hi,  I'm a new owner of SL-C3200.  I tried to flash the Cacko 1.23 on the Z but it said this model is not supported.  I think C3200 internal system is very similar to C3100  except more storage, so it should be applicable.  Is there a way to make the Cacko work on C3200?

Thanks

The SL-C3200 should be able to use Cacko.
There must be a refrence to the Zaurus models in the updater or the binary file.
Someone needs to ask maslovsky about this, as he is the person who builds the Cacko rom.

Go test OpenZaurus then. They are supporting the Terrier just like Borzoi and Spitz, or just stick with Sharp ROM and learn Japanese

I have hacked around with the updater.sh script and manged to get cacko to install on a Sl-C3200!

It works!!

I have attached the script I used (I just replaced the model SL-C3500 with SL-C3200 in the script, seems it was already prepared for a new model).  Note that the script is encrypted so you need to read
https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=C3000_Device_Specifics
if you actually want to read it in plain text.

You also need to copy the C3100 kernel and name it to the C3200 kernel in the tar file (or use symlinks) for it to work.

Works on mine too!!

I followed Craigms steps.  Using his update.sh.  Then untarred the tools.tar.  Copied folder  kernel-SL-C3100 to kernel-SL-C3200  and copied patch/SL-C3100 to patch/SL-C3200.  Then tarred it back.  It flashed just fine.

Thanks for the tip.

Going back to Sharp ROM..

Just want to share my experience with Cacko 1.23 on C3200.  After sucessfully install Cacko last week, I was able to install X/Qt and many progams with no problem.  But then I found a problem when connecting my Z with a desktop (window Xp) via USB.  Although the HDD3 was recognized by the desktop, it can not copy, move or delete contents on the Z's microdrive.  I can just see it but it will pop up error likes invalid parameters wehn I try to modify any content.  I can work around with that using a CF card and the Tree! Explorer to transfer data.  Then I saw Chresho's thread on 2GB SD card, I decided to flash back.   NAND restore worked with no problem.  Now I'm back to the original Sharp ROM and USB PC link works just as before.  My 2GB SD card also works.  Will stick with this ROM until Chresho have something new

Flashing back requires repartionning right? What were the exact steps you followed, I want to try cacko but I want to be sure of what to do to go back to Sharp ROM.

Thanks.

enodr, I just did the NAND restore from the D+B menu.  And it just worked ok.  I guess the 3200 already have 32M partition?  Lets compare our current partion with mine, which have gone through the Cacko ROM (but tell me how to check it, df -k?)

Thank. Chresho.  Do you have kismet in your backup?

You are right, the C3200 has a 44Mb partition.

Your backup is very nice! I managed to run Kismet and Wellenreiter on it, but I still need to figure how to do put the wireless card up from command line. I have a Planex GW-C11X, and doing:
- cardctl scheme CardResume (ok)
- cardctl scheme qpewlan0 (some iotctl busy error)
doe not work. I guess this is because the planex needs its firmware uploaded in the card RAM. Anyone knows where is the script called by the network applet?

Anyway, what I did is create a dummy profile (which requires to edit some config file because I can't set up an adhoc network from the GUI), then I connect to this dummy Adhoc network, and then launch Kismet or Wellenreiter.

Btw the latest Kismet 2005-08-R1 does not have curses interface compiled. Panel works but I have some strange squares on the screen instead of lines. I have to find out how to set up a comiling environment and re-builld it with curses. I don't like Kismet-QT because it doesn't have the powerfull features of the default kismet client (locking to a channel, display the number of packets, number of clients per AP, AP and client details, signal power, ...).

Ok now I realise that I have to put all this knowledge into a Wiki, cause it's really hard to find detailed and accurate information applying specifically to C3100 and C3200 models with Sharp ROM.

PS: I feel like trying the OZ3.5.4.1 ROM but it seems there is no 2.4 kernel for testing, and I don't want to mess with the HD partitions for the moment...

PPS: anyone willing to put on OESF wiki the 3100 and 3200 tech details? I had a hard time understanding that the NAND memory was split between 2 partitions, a read only one and the /home RW one. I can tell you it's 44032K / 79872K on the 3200. What about the 3100? (just run 'df' under a terminal).
