Hentges 3.5.4.1 For Collie
« Reply #75 on: April 25, 2006, 08:09:55 am »
me too, it will lock up going into and out of suspend, i also get the  "stty: standard input: bad file descriptor" error at start up,

im running 3.5.4 with loop image boot of cd with altboot rather than henteges cardfs though im sure they are very similiar  ...

sometimes it take a few seconds to get responsiveness from the screen after resume, and if i try and push the button again it will go back into suspend or lock up....

I'll check if Collies kernel includes the resume patch in the oz354x branch. I don't see why it would be missing tho.

Another issue with the latest Hentges. Are the package lists complete? I tried to install opie-mediaplayer2 (some of the podcasts I download can't be played by xmms, so I wanted to experiment with them in the media player), and it could not find it.

Code: [Select]
root@collie:~# ipkg update
Downloading http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/mirror/www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.4//feed/upgrades/Packages

Cannot find package opie-mediaplayer2.
Check the spelling or perhaps run 'ipkg update'

ipkg list shows it in the repository, but the Zaurus can't find it at download time. Another thing I noticed was that totem-docs was listed, but totem was not.`Conversely, after the first flash of 3.5.4.1, I was starting to install the extra packages I wanted, and did an ipkg list_installed and redirected to a file. I diffed this against the package list I had installed from 3.5.4rc, and some packages were not listed even though they were installed. bzip2 was one I encountered before I started finding other problems and wound up reflashing.

Right, the feeds are not correctly setup. I'll probably drop the hentges feed (99% of it is a duplícate of the 3.5.4.1 feed anyway) and only keep a single "hentges-upgrade" feed, and maybe, just maybe a "machine" feed with the hentges ipk's which you won't find in the OZ feeds.

ipkg is slow enough as it is, no need to make it even worse with useless additional feeds

Feeds are a somewhat weak side over here as I generally never use the preconfigured feeds.

No problem, Coredump. I too want to applaud you for all your and the other OZ developers hard work getting this going. I really feel bad about pointing all of this out.

Do you know when the next flashable is going to come available? I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should go back to the 3.5.4rc for the time being or whether I should go ahead and try to install apps on it as is.

Thanks,

RC5 for collie is [a href=\"http://hentges.net/tmp/do_not_use/collie/]online[/url].

Mini-Changelog:
- Upgraded altboot (no more stty error messages)
- Fixed 10-clean-gpe-settings.sh to stopp bugging you after selecting “no”
- Fixed mhbackup.sh to not ask to restore non-existing backups
- Adjusted GPE and Opie feed URLs.
- A 2nd getty will now be spawned on tty5 (Calendar + Left-Arrow / Right-Arrow toggles VTs on Collie)

This image includes altboot 1.0.7-rc2 which was not intended actually. It should work fine (it does here) but you'll notice a "Debug Shell" on tty2 which you can safely ignore

this is for hentges obviously, i have standard opie (non-hentges) loop image installed,

can i use this new rom with my current altboot loop image, or do i have to also have the hentges fs tarball or hentges loop image ??

2-

does this new release fix the suspend problem ??

A loop-image booted off SD / CF doesn't care which ROM is in the flash as long as it has altboot and uses th same kernel.
As for the suspend problem: It works fine here, can't reproduce...

Its inside the tarballs in the top-level collie directory...

hentges-gpe-image-collie_T1-RC5.tar.gz for gpe

hentges-opie-image-de-collie_T1-RC5.tar.gz for opie (german)

hentges-opie-image-collie_T1-RC5.tar.gz for opie (english)

Contents of the english opie tarball (all should be similar):

Code: [Select]
[storm@defiant collie]$ tar tzvf hentges-opie-image-collie_T1-RC5.tar.gz
-rw-r--r-- root/root     18011 2006-04-27 04:56:37 GPL.txt
-rw-r--r-- root/root       815 2006-04-27 04:56:37 README.txt
-rw-r--r-- root/root        45 2006-04-27 04:56:37 md5sum.txt
-rw-r--r-- root/root  14680064 2006-04-27 04:56:37 initrd.bin

Note that the answer to this question, the flash procedure and alternate method, as well as links to documentation on all of this have been discused several times earlier in this  thread.

Which zImage are you using? I used the 64-0 as I always do...Or is it safe to assume that it doesn't matter since they are all identical codebases? I am trying to figure out what could be causing many of us problems and others (including^H^H^H especially Coredump) not to experience it.
