Best Rom For 5600?
« on: April 30, 2006, 01:20:47 pm »
Which rom should i use with 5600? i tried gpe, opie and sharp roms.

Opie freezes everytime and when i try to install a package it gives linkling error...

with gpe works better then opie i want to use that but when i open package manager its closes package manager after the update ipkg and i didnt change the clock.

Sharp rom is very slover then opie and gpe.

What chip do you have in your Sharp? PXA250 or PXA255?

If you don't know, it's on the front of that lovely blue box it came in.

Basically, The Sharp Rom is slower, because it has some fixes for a bug in the PXA250 processor that they first shipped with. Later models used the PXA255, with no bug, but the same Rom, with the slower "fixed" kernel.

the OZ rom uses a special Kernel with no fix, which means it is unstable on a PXA250 processor, but fine with a PXA255.

If you have a 255, feel free to use OZ. With a 250, we kinda have to live with the speed, I have one too.

If you're really desperate, upgrade to a C3200. XD

actually we submit both kernels, but repeatedly suffer from people using the 255 kernel on 250 models and blaming us for crashes *sigh*

So how the hell do you guys get the speed boost?

When I tested the GPE image on Cortana, it was going ridiculously fast!

Ok, my abandonment was more on reasons of functionality than crashing, OZ never crashed on me, I didn't give it long enough to. XP

I dunno about watapon but I believe Poodles best bet is either:
- Staying with Sharp ROM which should be stable enough (not that I've ever tried heh)
- Hoping someone creates a new distro based on Sharp ROM and use that
- Waiting for OZ with Kernel 2.6 for Poodle (which is beeing worked on)

Kernel 2.4 is a bad joke on Poodle, really. 2.6 totally blows it out of the water. Poodle feels like a brand new PDA with the new kernel, and I'm not kidding

Ferret-Simpson: the speed boost comes from g++ 3.x (which contains xscale optimizations, 2.95 does not) and from using soft-float (floating point emulation in userland, not in kernelland).

Hmmm. . ..  I'll need to take a system backup first. . . Which album gets it? Follow the leader? Or Rosenrot?

Meh. Korn reminds me too much of my ex-girlfriend. Goodbye!!!

Besides, I can always re-load it from my Windows box (Don't worry, I've replaced part of the OS with Open Source code anyway!)

Umm. . . Nand backup? Service menu right? Can that just be installed from SD card, like a normal flash?

Note to self:

OPIE kernel WILL NOT RUN Sharp Rom.

Flashing. . . Flashing. . .

Ok, now the lights are flashing. They're going crazy!

Something to fix on the next release. . . . Is the Mail icon set to act as a HDD access indicator or something (HDD meaning of course Flash) Or is that just a random bug?

Well, SSH generates keys no faster. XD

libZkbapplet NOT FOUND

Starting OE

Hmmm. . . nice. . . Needs packages though
usual OE ones work?

Cheers! I like it!

No surprise there =)

Ok, now the lights are flashing. They're going crazy!

The flashing process does not differ from a 2.4 kernel.

The Mail LED is indeed a "HDD" activity indicator with all OZ 2.6 kernels.

That can be ignored. You will not see this message in a normal OZ image

Yep, they should work just fine.
