Hmmm. . . Not a big fan of the rom overall, am bored, so will try OZ 3.5.4 on the 2.6Kernel
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Kernel 2.6 on a normal 3.5.4 ROM is going to fail horribly. [a href=\"http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/kernel-26-on-poodle-status-page/]Countless packages[/url] were adjusted for kernel 2.6 on Poodle since 3.5.4 was released.

Might have worked, if it wasn't for the different modules.

Good job though! It's off to a damn good start! How long before a GPE "FAIRLY" stable release is out? heh GIVE ME BACK MY INIT!

Keep on hacking. That was incredibly fast, and incredibly stable. Owns Sharp 2.6! Just needs the rest of the rom to be finished. Will try and reflash Sharp 1.32 to see if I can get back safely.

And it went back to SharpRom perfectly ^^

No maintenance menu required!

EDIT: Oh, and my SD card worked fine!

Just a question, are there any updates on the kernel and rom yet? Really looking forward to this. *^^*

It's the (Currently Under Development) 2.6 kernel and matching ROM

It's INCREDIBLE.

According to the onboard benchmarks, my Poodle is giving:

Integer Arithmetic: 495768 dhrys                 C-750: 490677
FPU: 2.83 secs                                                     C-750: 2.452 secs
Text Rendering: 614 chars/sec                        C-750: 437 Chars/sec
Gfx Rendering: 2842.33 gops/sec                   C-750: 1396 gops/sec
RAM Performance: 14.58MB/s; 3.08MB/s       C-750: 132.06 kb/sec

Haven't got Network access on it yet, or my new BIG SD-card to upload the feed onto, So I can't test it with the normal apps or anything yet. . . . But those benchmarks are just. . . . COOL!

Now you understand why I'm so excited? XD

That's a PXA250 5600 with 2.6 kernel build 21/05/2006 To have a 250 Poodle outperform a 750 is pretty funky on the whole. . . Considering how slow it is on the Sharp ROM.

|glares horrified|

YOU
DON'T
USE
YOUR
POODLE???????????

Shocked!

yeah. I backed up, formatted, and reflashed my poodle again today, since it's the holidays and I ain't using it for anything Mission-critical.

As you can see by my posted benchmarks (Which I need to email to handhelds.org when I've got the card read one's done)
This rom 15 73H UB()R!!!!!!!!

Gone insane and am downloading the entire 3.5.4 OPIE feed, as well as a couple of base packages from the POODLE feed. Got a 512 SD card arriving tomorrow or friday, as well as a new router (My first wifi   ) and a new CF802.11B the week after. Which means I'll be able to benchmark video on this.

I think probably, when it's available for the 2.6 kernel, I'll migrate to GPE. I use my zaurus as a PC, not a PDA, so QT based Display managers like OPIE, While Awesome, aren't really suitable for me. When I've got the new parts, and CD finishes the greatest piece of coding in Poodle history, I'll have a zaurus that Duncan Steele would be proud of.

Next big challenges for me:

1: Get a HTC Universal and get GPE running on that aswell.
2: Learn C for objective 3.
3: Get a 5500 or another 5600 and port AROS
4: Learn Russian. User Friendly's fault. (DAMN YOU ILLIAD!) Nyet. Am runnink Linux Shop. No need for NT serrverrrrr.

Anyway: YOUR next challenge:

Since by your own TRULY HORRIFYING admission, your Poodle isn't in use, so go now! Follow the link earlier in the thread, and play with OZ/OPIE/2.6 - It's AWESOME!!!!

I was encouraged by this message to install the experimental 2.6 kernel on my poodle.  So far, so good.  At least it boots.

I'd like to install cardfs but I have no idea which one to use.  The only Poodle cardfs image I can find is for 3.5.3 Release T3.  Or should I use the 3.5.4.1 T1 cardfs for collie?

If I find the right cardfs image then I have one more question.  I was having some trouble with my 1 GB SD card after I formatted it with ext2.  Lots of problems with fsck, corruption, etc.  So I reformatted it back to FAT16 and created a ext2 loopback filesystem on the card.

Here's what the relevant stuff in /etc/fstab says:

Code: [Select]
/dev/mmcblk0p1  /mnt/sd auto    defaults,sync,noauto    0  0
/mnt/sd/filesys /mnt/card       ext2    defaults,loop

I also changed /etc/altboot-2.6.cfg.  The one change I made was to the SD_DEVICE variable.  I changed it from:

Code: [Select]
SD_DEVICE="/dev/mmcblk0p1"
to:

Code: [Select]
SD_DEVICE="/mnt/sd/filesys"
I hope this enables me to load the root filesystem from the loopback filesystem.  Is there anything else I should change?

Thanks for the work on poodle.  I really love my Zaurus.

I think you'd have to build your own cardFS image from scratch with the 2.6 rom.

Hey, fancy trying out mplayer or something? Just to see (Even without sound) How much the performance increases.

That or FinalF6 in Snes9x?

Do you know what snes9x ipk to install?  I noticed that snes9x isn't included in the official 3.5.4 feed.  I didn't try mplayer before but I'll give it a go now and see how it works.

mplayer works great.  Video is smooth and I get about 25-30 fps.

prboom is really fast!  I was getting motion sick looking at the screen.

I downloaded snes9x from the killefiz site.  I used this URL:

http://www.suhami.net/zaurus/snes/snes9x-030713.zip

When I try running snes9x, I get this error message:

/mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/snes9x: symbol lookup error: /mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/snes9x: undefined symbol: __14QPEApplicationRiPPcQ212QApplication4Type

I suspect that it has to do with missing or outdated libraries that are required.  I'm using the libsdl from the 3.5.4 feed and not the libsdl mentioned on the killefiz site because it's older and it didn't work.  I got this error when I tried it:

/mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/snes9x: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0: undefined symbol: cmd__12QPaintDeviceiP8QPainterP13QPDevCmdParam

I haven't had much luck installing quite a few of the games in the 3.5.4 feed.  froot, gemdropx, and gnuz all gave segmentation faults and opie-kpacman and opie-qasteroids didn't work either.  The only game that worked out of the box was brickout.

Have you had success with the packages in the 3.5.4 feed?

So mplayer and prboom is good?

hey, maybe even zPSX could run. XD

Hey cool, sound is now good!

Is there a new test kernel and image downloadable for this (GPE?) Where do i go to get it if there is?

Looks like it's pretty much ready for users, at least in GPE's case.

Last few bugs aren't the kind to kill me!
