Zaurus Wifi Misery
« on: June 13, 2006, 06:13:58 pm »
I am about to ditch my new zaurus c1000 and go back to Palm ..so one last go. I am a COMPLETE novice so be gentle.I would like to hang on to the zaurus because of the keyboard(reminds me of my old psions) but I cannot get it to connect to my home network. When I first got it I loaded up cacko 1.23 and tried running the planex gw cf11x . I fill in the info for my home network (never any problems with my ibook and four other computers-they all log on straight away)-the result is either network offline , or iniatalising just keeps on doing that. I then loaded the Rom from Figlabs  same result. I then went back to cacko with a dlink dcf-660w -same result. I have connected ok to a friends network with no problems. so it is clearly something to do with my wireless network ( Belkin 54g) but there is no security on it or anything that would obviously stop connecting. ( as Ive said all the other computers and visiting ones work fine immediately) Ive tried delving into the config file using vi ( following various threads) but Im a bit wary since i dont really know what im doing .. any help would br greatly appreciated, thanks

mmiller ... I hear you.

I am also having difficulty getting Cacko to recognize my wifi xi-825 cf card. It works out of the box in oz/gpe and pdaXrom, so I know it works and the network I am connecting to works as well. Something is just wrong with the hostap driver ...

Can you confirm if your card is detected and drivers are loaded? Is the LED on your wifi blinking, on or off?

How would I fix my router ?its run through a windows xp machine.

Both cards are recognised by the zaurus-I understood that cacko supports both cards and therefore assume that the drivers are loaded but hoiw can I check?

mmiller, can u also do a

# cardctl ident

and post us the results?

This should show what card is detected ... in case the necessary driver is not loaded properly.

hmmm ... your manfid seem to be missing something ... typically, it would be like this ...

socket 0:
  product info: "D-Link", "DCF-660W" ""
  manfid: 0xd601, 0x0005 <--- for example
  function: 6(network)
Socket 1:
  no product info available

How about a iwconfig? <--- See if a driver is loaded.

If not, you may want to try add the above info into hostap_cs.conf to get the driver loaded.

uhm... this looks very promising. I cannot give you any advice, but certainly the card is properly recognized.

You just need to properly configure it to connect to your acces point, which usually is the easiest part.

I'm just giving you energy to keep on havint it working !!

can you limit the belkin to operate only as an 802.11b device and not in mixed b/g mode?
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

progress of sorts: ive changed the setting on the belkin to allow 802.11b devices rather than the default which is mixed. with the planex card in the icon on the zaurus is blu and wireless lan status registers as functioning (mac address, signal noise quality) However I cant connect to the internet and the belkin router status dosn't show the zaurus on the client list as connected ---grrr!  running iwconfig now reports quality noise and signal  ok but rx still invalid etc.. although invalid misc now reports 54
