Installing Hentges Opie Rfs/loop-file

I like OPIE and like the Hentges ROMS. Up to this point I have been using the card file system. While it provides everything a newbie needs to get started, it does have some problems: The package manager is useless, one has to use ipkg-link in addition to ipkg and the computer loses the links to some of the pre-installed programs (like opie reader, opie eye, tinykate, xmms, etc) and has to be re-linked.

Consequently, I tried to install a Hentges tarball root file system. While the rfs for gpe works, the one for opie does not. The main problem is that erroneous medium mount window that pops up right after the initial boot and cannot be circumvented. Using the CFS, I could just pop out the SD card during booting, but when the OS is on the SD card, there is no way to do this. There is another option where someone used ssh, but that does not work for me.

So, is there a way to bypass this screen so I can boot from my SD?

I finally was able to get past that dreaded screen. After searching the internet (there are at least a half dozen Z forums out there), I found that all many folks had to do was just reboot. Yet, that solution did not work for any of my attempts. During a few of my attempts, opie would start up after several startup files refused to load, but then it would crash or on a subsequent reboot, my Z would say opie was not installed and drop into a command line.

So I decided to blame it on my SD card. I zeroed it using the directions  Coredump's alt-boot faq on the OZ site and reinstalled an ext2 filesystem. I then installed a loop-file from a Hentges tarball and  a Hentges card file system and it all worked. In fact, a gray Hentges.net startup screen appeared that I had never seen before when I used to boot from flash. And all of the programs work, including the opie-packagemanager! No more ipkg-link!!

Is there any other alternative way to bypass this screen?? I've tried to copy .opiestorage.cf from my CF to the SD card as .opiestorage.card. Also followed the tips from CoreDump at https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21795&st=45 :

- Reset the machine
- Do not let the Opie GUI start but press a button during the 5 second window
- Login as "root" (no password)
- Enter "ipkg remove opie-mediummount" and hit return
- Launch Opie with "/etc/init.d/opie start"
but still the medium mount screen appears. Any help??

I've tried to copy .opiestorage.cf from my CF to the SD card as .opiestorage.card.

Don't rename it, it's .opiestorage.cf for the SD-card and CF-card
