C860 Seemingly Gone For Good
« on: August 26, 2006, 10:32:52 pm »
I'm deeply saddened.  I wanted to try pdaXrom on my (almost new) 860, so I followed the instructions exactly.  I've installed and upgraded OZ a number of times, so it was really nothing new, except for the part where the install finished and my handheld froze.  Now, it won't turn on.

I think I've tried everything... I haven't been able to find any detailed descriptions of any of the emergency recovery options... the D+M and all of those... I've tried everything I could find, but I haven't been able to get it to do anything, except briefly (maybe a sixth of a second) flash the charge light when I plug in the power supply.

I don't know if I'm not doing them right, but people seem pretty confident that these things can't be truly bricked.  I use my Zaurus all the time, throughout the day.  I feel lost without it.  I would like to retain the data that's on it, but I would rather get it back empty and have to start over than to be without it.

Does anyone have any information that might be useful?

Thanks,
Ashley

I believe you're right... I just didn't know that when I tried it.  I had a 5500 for years (loved it) and I'm fairly new to the clamshell models.  I didn't know how bad it could get.

Thanks... That information is more detailed than what I've been able to find so far.  Unfortunately, it's still not working.  I can't even turn the little guy on.  I follow the steps on that page exactly and nothing happens.  I'll keep trying, though... I'm not quite ready to give up, yet.

try the "special Zaurus Diag Vodoo":
Same procedure like trying to start the normal Diag, but use the
"FN"(!) + "D" + "M" keys.
Complete steps are in this thread:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...=19939&hl=vodoo

This should bring your Zaurus back to life.

Fingers crossed

YIPPEEEEEE, Huray and stuff.  You're my new Best Friend.  That's what I needed.  And now I'm no longer afraid to try new OSes on my little box.  I'm so happy that, if I had a web server, I would dedicate space to repositories for the Open Source Project.

He's home safe, his nose is wet, and we would like to thank those who helped.

Hugs,
Ashley
