It appears as though we will have a greater choice of phone hardware platforms than the neo1973 as OpenMoko is ported to other phones. LugRadio has a very good interview with Mickey Lauer about the OpenMoko project (Season 4, Episode 1).
http://www.lugradio.org/Mickey mentions that he expects OpenMoko to be up and running on all Motorola Linux smartphones shortly after the launch/release of OpenMoko. He believes it will then soon be ported to the HTC Universal which is also known as the i-Mate JASJAR, 02 XDA Exec, QTEK 9000, & the T-Mobile MDA IV.
These are all functionally the same platform and here are the specs:
- Intel XScale Bulverde 520 MHz processor, 128 MB of ROM, 64 MB of RAM
- 3.6" VGA screen, 16-bit color, 180-degree swivel screen
- Tri-band GSM/GPRS with UMTS support
- WiFi (802.11b) and Bluetooth
- Two speakers and a built-in microphone, with full duplex support
- Two cameras, a 1.3 mega pixel and a VGA camera
- SDIO slot is included
- Standard headphone jack which also supports headsets
- 1620 mAh battery

Do those specs sound like what many of us have been desiring in a Zaurus upgrade?
I will be following this OpenMoko project very closely. If it is indeed ported to the HTC Universal platform and I am able to have access to the same array of Linux programs that I currently run on my Zaurus or I can compile them in OpenEmbedded, I think I have found my Zaurus replacement.
All I need is for it to accept the higher capacity memory cards (2gb or 4gb) and I will be very satisfied.
