I've just installed build 3. Unfortunately bvdd video isn't working again- I've tried both mplayer1 and mplayer2 but neither wants to do the full-screen bvdd thing- what a shame!

My other problem is that I find the default gtk font size is too small so under the last build all I had to do was change the 14 in /home/root/.gtkrc-2.0 to an 18 and that solved the problem. I tried changing the V in Verdana to a small v and I tried font size values between 16 and 20 but none of it had any effect. Can someone recommend a larger, readable font setting that will work under this latest release or tell me how to find out a list of valid values I can use in this file?

The '1' key works now but I see that caps lock is still commented out- I presume that is because enabling it causes random shifting of caps to non-caps when using the terminal, which is what is happening for me.

Apart from that everything seems fine so far- good work meanie!

I have just tried mplayer & mplayer2 with the very last Meanie upload. Option "-vo bvdd" worked fine. Same with "-vm".
Could you post the exact mplayer parameters you are trying?

Just flashed the latest b2 kernel/initrd and full system. I'm seeing that it has to recover the journal on the hda1 and it finds orphan inodes almost every time I reboot using the reboot menu option in X. Every time i've tried using shutdown instead, it has come up clean. (Quite possibly non-conclusive - I just didn't notice this under earlier builds)

While testing SCIM I rebooted and got a Filesystem with errors - check forced message, so it would appear that something is going on...

And I still can't get SCIM to work. Do you have to set anything other than the keyboard type? I try and set it to Japanese, but it never stays - it keeps reverting to unknown.

(And the first time that I tried to set it and rebooted, I got a "Updating configuration file" message and my desktop disappeared.)

sometimes, the filesystem gets really corrupted  but I do't know why and when it happens. in such extreme cases i boot into the emergency system and do a e2fsck on /dev/hda1 with the -f -y options which will then fix many many errors. after that everything is fine again.
if you see it recovering two inodes during reboot, then that's ok. if you see none, then that's even better but the two inodes needing recovery are harmless.
scim is currently half broken. it does only work in non gtk2 apps. what you need to do is reinstall the original beta3 gtk2 package in order to make it work. I am currently working on a patched gtk2 version for beta3 to include my fixes from beta1.

ruig5:

I didn't use any parameters when playing the vids because the mplayer.conf file already contains the -vo bvdd and -vm parameters yet despite this when I clicked on a video under rox under this latest build it plays in a window when under build 2 or the old c3k b2 these same videos would play back full-screen, so it was then that I tried using the mplayer1 and mplayer2 commands only to get a small video in the centre surrounded by a big black border (with mplayer1) or to the side of the screen, vertically aligned with mplayer2.

Its a shame about the video in build 3 but I'm waiting on build 4 anyway as I see gpe-calendar as an essential package and because most of its dependencies don't get installed when you install from Xromers feed its the single most time consuming package to install that I've encounter so far on the Z. Having amule on by default will also be very cool! Please make double sure bvdd video works in build4 meanie or I'm going to cry!

no other problems so far?

well, I did a bad thing and overwrote the mplayer wrapper script when I upgraded gmplayer, but for those impatient souls, I have attached the mplayer wrapper script. Just rename the existing /usr/bin/mplayer to /usr/bin/mplayer3 and copy the attached script as /usr/bin/mplayer

I was also able to fix the problem with the applets disappearing when you switch between vga and qvga mode. See other thread for a file to replace matchbox-manager with to fix that problem.

I also recompiled gtk2 for beta3 and scim works with it so I am reapplying my hacks to make the dialog windows fit on the Z screen

I also figured out how to change the colours when you do a ls, and I changed the directory colour to something more readable.

All these changes will of course be available in build4....

Meanie:

Any solution to my font problem? I checked and verdana was present, maybe its the xfontpath thats set wrong? It doesn't have to be verdana though- I just want a bigger font that is easy on the eyes.

I'm wondering why your mplayer wrapper is using x11 video by default instead of bvdd? This kinda conflicts with your mplayer.conf which (rightfully so) is setup to use bvdd by default. If gmplayer works well with bvdd then great but as it stands I was best off playing videos using xmms as, unlike when playing vids launched from under rox, I could stop the videos at any moment by pushing escape/quit or whatever that little x button next to the arrow keys is called.

Has anybody else run into xmms complaining:

Please check that:
1/ your soundcard is configured properly
2/ you have the correct output plugin selected
3/ no other program is blocking the soundcard

After playing about four or five songs?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=148842\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

if you look at the script more carefully you will see that it does default to the bvdd version since the first clause will evaluate negative in most cases unless of course GMPLAYER is set to true which by default is set to false.

as for fonts, what fonts are you on about? the title, the menu, the terminal, its all controlled from different places in pdaXrom  some settings will override others, its such a joy  the openbox theme (which specifies font sizes) and the matchbox font are more dominant though for the window manager/X environment, however, some applications pick their own font or use the font defined by the gtk2 theme while others use the font defined by Qt. In mrxvt, press Ctrl + =

Hi Meanie!

wrt my font problem, a few postings back I wrote:

My other problem is that I find the default gtk font size is too small so under the last build all I had to do was change the 14 in /home/root/.gtkrc-2.0 to an 18 and that solved the problem. I tried changing the V in Verdana to a small v and I tried font size values between 16 and 20 but none of it had any effect [even after restarting X]. Can someone recommend a larger, readable font setting that will work under this latest release or tell me how to find out a list of valid values [and fonts] I can use in this file?

And I also asked if it was not possible to enable caps lock without getting funny random caps-shifting behaviour under the X console (dunno if that happens under other apps too)

EDIT

I also reported having problems with xmms but that has been sorted now so I've deleted the 'bug' description from above
