Usb Ethernet Adapter On Cacko
« on: January 07, 2007, 01:37:05 pm »
Hi

I'm a fairly new Zaurus user and have used this excellent forum to solve most of my teething troubles over the last few months but I am still stuck on a couple of issues.

One if which is getting my cheap USB Ethernet adapter to work on my SL-C3200 running  Cacko. As stated in the title it is marked MODEL : KH886 and is made by KangHui Tech CO.,LTD. When I plug it in with the USB Host cable absolutely nothing happens.

Does anyone know if this should work as is or will I need specific drivers. I have searched the forum and also with Google but haven't come up with anything.

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Cheers

Congrats on the Z.  Did you load Cacko Lite or the full version?  You may have to load the usb network kernal module drivers from the feed.

I have just installed usb-network-modules-2.4.20_1.23--lite-1_arm.ipk and unfortunately it still doesn't work.

Do I perhaps need a driver for this adapter?

What does it say when you open up Konsole and type dmesg?

I've just rebooted it, plugged in the USB Host cable with USB LAN adapter connected and this is what I get from dmesg (I've only pasted the last bit that looks relevant, let me know if you need more) :-

Code: [Select]
usbh: monitor_int_hndlr:
usbh: monitor_bh:
usbh: udc_connected: ACTIVE_LOW: 1<7>usbh: monitor_connected: 1
usbh: monitor_load: 4
usbh: monitor_hotplug: agent: usbh interface: monitor action: load
usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs
usb.c: registered new driver hub
usb-ohci.c: USB OHCI at membase 0xfe000000, IRQ 3
usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
hub.c: USB hub found
hub.c: 2 ports detected
hub.c: new USB device -2, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0xa46/0x9601) is not claimed by any active driver.

Thanks very much for the assistance.

I just did a general search in google and it seems like others had problems with that adapter and linux.  Check out the first two.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&saf...F-8&sa=N&tab=iw

You can try typing a lsusb to get some device info.  Has anyone else had luck with this device.

I have a Hawkings branded USB Ethernet dongle and it works well.

I saw those pages on my search and thought that I would have problems getting it to work.

I did lsusb and these are the last two lines:-

Code: [Select]
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0a46:9601 Davicom Semiconductor, Inc.

This also confirms that it is a Davicom device as referred to in the first Google result.

Thanks very much for your help, I think I will look for a Hawkins one instead. Should a Hawkins adapter work without any extra drivers?

While I'm here I don't suppose you know anything about emulators for the humble ZX Spectrum do you?

Thanks very much for the info, just ordered one now.

Do you know if this will work straight off the Zaurus or will I need a powered hub?

Cheers

It will work straight off the Z, at least it did for my 3100.  I was trying to use a bluetooth adapter at the same time when I fried everything.
