I know this wasn't built for me but why does the W-ZERO3[es] need two keyboards...give me a bigger screen.

Aye ... it's kinda sad ... but think of it this way ... AFAI am concerned, SHARP could have ceased production and I would not feel much of a diff, as they just release the products and don't really produce any ROM updates or anything as such.

OESF forums and the community has supported all of us way better than SHARP has done.

I guess the one thing is that now there is no new Zaurii coming out for sure ...

I remain hopeful for the *current* state of Z development. There are still lots of things we can do (distros and packages) to perfect and get the most out of this extraordinary gadget.
I will stay with Z for quite some while, perhaps until Neo1973 is out and creates another buzz. iPhone looks gorgeous, but its openness remains doubtful.

Thanks Marc. That is reassuring. Have you been able to source third party batteries that work out of the box without scraping the plastic around the terminals in order to get them to work with a Zaurus?

sure. The batteries from Rowa (the ones we're selling for
the SL-5500 and the SL-C series) will work right out of
the blisterpack (no box ). No modding or cutting is
required (this would be poor quality from the maker).

They aren't actually on the website, but in our shop. We have
them for a year now and received no complaints.

where people can buy stuff).
So i just meant that you won't see the batteries if
you browse through trisoft.de, but if you click at
the "online shop" button, they're listed as "R-EA-BL06"
and "R-EA-BL11".

Specification for the Rowa EA-BL06 is 1050 mAh.
So it's +100mAh compared to the original EA-BL06.

The Rowa EA-BL11 is 1800 mAh. Identical specs to
the EA-BL11.

I hope this doesn't mean that Softmaker will abandon their support for products on the Z... it kills any hopes that TomTom might be persuaded to do an official linux port. Also diminishes chances of an updated opera browser too. Ironically, it means the Sony MyLo is one of the only linux true-handhelds with a keyboard now.

I think it is good news. It means that people will start thinking about how they can adapt their 'zaurus' software to other devices. It will make their software more generic and easier to maintain.

In a way (as far as OZ and pdaX are concerned) koen is right. Just think of how many issues have been generated by the differences between the Cxx0 and the Cxk series, and between the "flash-only" models and those with microdrive.
I'm just beginning to think of making my Z as the dedicated pocketable roguelike/dungeon crawling gaming device. One of the greatest things about these games is they can be ported easily to many platforms (such as pdaX) with low hardware requirement.

I think this is good news for non-zaurus handheld linux fans - you're right, people will make their code more portable... but why should non-zaurus fans make the software they already have portable to the zaurus?

Why should any budding new embedded or handheld linux guru get a zaurus and join the community? No, apart from a last surge of interest, the zaurus will very slowly die, we'll all hang on as long as possible and hope something will come along to replace it, and we'll all have to work even harder to get new software written (or dig into our pockets to offer a bounty).

For proof, take a look at the discontinued 6000, despite being a very fine machine, there's not been massive innovation there, although the OZ people did us a big favour by adopting it. Admittedly, there aren't too many 6000s active.
