Pdaxii13-akita (sally) & Fix (feb-07-2007)
« on: February 07, 2007, 12:05:31 pm »
I hope nobody minds if I post a new thread about this, since the other thread about pdaxii13-akita is mostly for the SL-C1000
I have been trying to get pdaxii13-akita "Sally", which is latest version, to work on a SL-C3200, with meanie's help over at tyrannozaurus.
After several different versions of akita-fix.tgz, I finally have one that works and doesn't hang up upon reboot.
Below is a copy/paste of the current post titled "pdaxii13 on C1000" at tyrannozaurus, starting with meanie's "akita-fix.tgz" post from early this morning. (Feb-07-2007)

well, I've created one more patch. this will be the last one, either it works or i'll give up.
http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/pdaXii13...a/akita-fix.tgz

if it works, i will package up a new initrd.bin and release it as pdaXii13 Akita build 5.3 (Sally), otherwise i will revert to the original rc.rofilesys and release it as pdaXii13 Akita 5.2.5 (Sally)

There must be someone else with a C3200 to test this on.
Just because my C3200 has problems, doesn't mean somone else will have the same problems, or any problem at all.
I'm reflashing pdaxii13-akita Sally right now and will apply the fix and reboot.
EDIT:
This last fix allowed me to boot completely into the GUI.
In other words, pdaxii13-akita Sally no longer hangs up on bootup (the first or second time)
Bear with me, I'm copying all the NEW startup messages and will post in this thread immediately with a new post!

I typed this down in notepad, because I couldn't find the bootup sequence in .bash_history.

I installed pdaxii13-akita Sally again. Once in the GUI, I made a couple adjustments, (light & power)
I installed emelFM and copied the newest akita-fix files (dated feb 07-2007) to their proper directories.
Leaving my CF card inserted, I exited the GUI and typed "reboot" > enter.
Rebooting to the GUI finally worked for me!  YEAH!
Here's the sequence.
--------------------
Welcome to pdaxii13 on Sharp Zaurus

cardmgr[443]: socket 1: ATA/IDE Fixed Disk
...internal microdiive is /dev/hdc (remember, I left my CF card inserted)
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdc1, missing codepage, or too many mounted file systems
...enabling second partition as swap
...enabling third partition as /data

Set loopback device: [OK]
Hostname: zaurus: [OK]
Module dependencies: [FAILED]

All the following checks (after module dependencies) are marked as [OK]

meanie, I couldn't find the debug.log in /home/root, or /home this time.

There seems to be a problem with my /dev/hdc1
I opened rxvt and mounted /dev/hdc1 to /mnt/ide
mount command gives this:
/dev/hdc1 on mnt/ide type ext3 (rw)
df -h gives this:
/dev/hdc1 2.0G 32.1M 1.9G 2% /mnt/ide
sfdisk -l gives this:
/dev/hdc1 0+ 4263 4264- 2149055+ 83 Linux

Seems another reboot re-detected both of my CF slots this time. (With a CF card inserted in external slot)

Welcome to pdaxii13 on Sharp Zaurus

cardmgr[443]: socket 0: ATA/IDE Fixed Disk
cardmgr[443]: socket 1: ATA/IDE Fixed Disk

Previously the first reboot after I copied the akita-fix files only showed one CF slot.

Welcome to pdaxii13 on Sharp Zaurus

cardmgr[443]: socket 1: ATA/IDE Fixed Disk

All other messages were the same.

Now I'm going to install my core utilities and tweak from there.

Jon_J:

Are you saying that the latest release of pdaXii13A now lets you successfully upgrade to the hdimage-full version (but still has the module dependencies error) on 3100/3200? Thats great news if so!

Didn't Meanie already post a fix for the Module Dep. error somewhere? I suppose if he did it would've been fixed in this latest release. How does the module dependency error effect the normal user? Does this mean any modules that aren't compiled straight into the kernel won't get loaded when requested?

Pdaxii13-akita (sally) & Fix (feb-07-2007)

I think I may have posted wrong info somewhere about the module dependency error being fixed in pdaxii13-akita.
After re-reading some of the stuff about pdaxii13-akita, I think I may have been upgrading to pdaxii13-spitz-full, when I noticed the module dependency error was no longer there.

EDIT, actually I don't think I posted the wrong info in that post. I was installing pdaxii13-spitz-full.
Here's the post about module dependencies being fixed.

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=153263

I'm sure every version and fix of pdaxii13-akita has had the module dependency error on my C3200.
I don't have a clue about modules and kernels. I'm very new at Linux, and last year when I got my first Z (C3100), was the first time I ever used Linux.

I'm not going to upgrade my pdaxii13-akita setup to pdaxii13-spitz-full for 2 reasons, for right now.

1. I have some sort of problem with my first partition and am not sure what exactly it is.
You can see by my bootup sequence, there is a problem with /dev/hdc1
Also /dev/hdc1 doesn't automount in this latest version+fix, while the other two partitions are automounting. (hdc2-swap, and hdc3)
2. I think I'm going to install all my applications/utilities, one at a time, and not upgrade to pdaxii13-spitz-full.
Also, since there is a problem with my hdc1, I don't want to install anything onto the hard drive anyway, for now.

EDIT2: Oh, by the way, USB Storage is working in this version. USB settings has 3 settings and my selection survives rebooting.
SD
CF
Internal Storage

oh guys and gals

just to clarify the naming

pdaXii13 Spitz = Alice

pdaXii13 Akita = Sally

both edition come in a pdaXii13 base and a pdaXii13 full version and optionally a pdaXii13 custom version which has not been released yet since the intend is to allow third parties to create customised builds of pdaXii13 based on the pdaXii13 base image... which then obviously be called pdaXii13 custom

the number is the build version, ie pdaXii13 Spitz 5.3 is build 5.3 using the 5.3 build script.

this will be the naming convention from now onwards, ie any new build will have this naming convention whereas some older builds used the same name (Alice) since the akita branch of pdaXii13 (Sally) was newly added and not originally planned for...
