Any Troubles Using Minisd Cards?
« on: April 22, 2007, 02:47:15 am »
Hello Everyone,

Wish to by a mobile (Sharp of course   ) and a scanner (DocuPen) both use MiniSD cards for storage.  Wonder if the beasties would work in the sl-cxxxx Zaurii (with the appropriate adaptor of course).

Any known issues or caveates people can warn me about??!!

Cheers,
AdamD

I confirm they work fine, when they are handled carefully and correctly.
The SD slot of the Zaurus is a but dangerous: If you put in the card and don't press firmly enough, it pops out again (because it doesn't rest). But it had contact already and Linux may have mounted the card partially. This can lead to data loss on the card.
Using MiniSD adds another similar mechanical weak point.

Also, one of my test cards in Mini SD format did not work, because its Mini-SD/SD adapter didn't fit the Zaurus correctly. I had to press with more force than normal in order to put it into the Zaurus SD slot. Afterwards, I didn't get it out by pressing anymore. I had to pull it out using pliers.
Afterwards I had to put in a normal SD card and press to get it out again, until the slot worked normally again.

So be careful!

Thank you for the helpful information.

If it's ok with you, what was the card involved with the "stickyness"?

I haven't had any trouble reading my Kingston 512 micro-SD card (with adapter, of course) on my SL-C3100 running Cacko. My current cell phone (Motorola E815) uses this format.
Sharp Zaurus SL-C3100, Cacko 1.23
Piel Frama Black Leather Case
Sharp Zaurus SL-5500, Sharp 3.1 ROM
