Power Consumption Comparison
« on: November 13, 2007, 11:02:50 am »
Hi Everyone,

I have just bought a 2nd hand C3100 and have replaced the internal Microdrive with a CF card already. But I found the power consumption of C3100 seems still higher than the C1000.

For an example, I fully charged both C3100 and C1000 (both with cacko 1.23 installed), and then bring them to suspend mode. After 12 hours, C1000 still have 100% of battery while C3100 got 95% only.

I am sure it is not the batteries problem as I have tested it again by exchange the batteries, and it come with the same result.

Is this normal ? Thanks in advance!

if you run the C1000 with only a CF card inserted, and the C3100 with only the internal CF card (so as to try and compare like for like), does the same occur?

the 3x00 has additional circuitry inside to control the internal CF slot, so it will use battery more quickly, but I am suprised the difference is so great!

Doesn't the C3100 running its OS off the internal cf? That could possibly mean that power to the CF or at least the controller are active while the device itself is in suspend mode. Whereas the C1000 runs it off the 128mb memory right? I think that means the c1000 can power off the CF controller (those pesky ata stuffs)

fyi, CF specs have the controlling circuits on the device while the newer mem cards like SDs have it on the mem cards directly.

Only the C3000 OS runs off the internal HDD as shipped from the factory. (The C3000 only has 16MB NAND).
Both the C3100 and C3200 run the OS on 128MB NAND as shipped or with Cacko installed. Same goes for the C3100 / C3200 and the original pdaXrom NAND type install.

angstrom treats all C3xxx as the same as if only had 16M flash, everything is expected to be stored on microdrive. Koen once told me that it doesn't make much difference to speed and power and there'd not be much benefit in putting the OS into flash on the 3100 and 3200.
