Debian On A Sl-5500

I'm not using anybodies distribution of zdebian, I'm just running a debootstrap I set up myself. It ran great for years, but lately glibc refuses to update because of my 2.4.18 kernel. 2.6 on 5500 will probably never happen until the mythological GPL colle sd/mmc driver unmythologicals itself. Comments?

What would happen if I temporarily put a fake uname in my path to get glibc to upgrade? Would my system become unusable? Is there any hope of 2.6 on collie? This thing has become entirely unusable because of this glibc problem.

What are the odds I could fake debian into thinking it has a current libc6? I'm running out of options.

Angstrom has the 2.6 kernel working with SD on collie, together with probably all the software you want to run, and much faster too.

Would that include audio then? That is a big requirement for me. I've been checking http://linuxtogo.org/gowiki/ZaurusCollie semi-regularly and it says audio still needs work. Hopefully it is just out of date.

DId the SD driver make it to the mainline kernel yet? I pledged $25 for that to whoever made it happen. Or any of the rest of the code, it is all pretty exciting to see that stuff make it mainline. I've been hoping to see that for years.

And on the subject of kernels, is there an easy way for me to download just the angstrom kernel? I have a ton of respect for the angstrom people doing all of this collie work, but no interest in anything but the kernel. I hope I don't have to set up the entire angstrom build environment just for that.

I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at, but it looks like some of the patches are local to the angstrom build environment when I look at this page - http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/repo/...&pnm=kernel

I know the answer is somewhere but I read this forum every day and I've looked and looked.
I now feel ready to risk trying an Angstrong on my collie.
the only image that I can currently find for collie is here http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...tobuild/collie/
I can't find specific instructions for installing on collie.
It's fairly easy to work out the Zimage bit but of the possible combinations of file for the opie image do I rename initrd.bin.
I've tried to rtfm but I can't find it.

Find a file that ends in jffs2 and matches the time of the kernel build.  Rename foo-bar.rootfs.jffs2 to initrd.bin.

Nothing working yet.
It seems to flash the kernel ok but I've tried all the different .jffs2 files renamed initrd.bin and nothing seemed to work properly.
mail and charging light only came on for a minute or so, not like a proper flash.
May have another go this weekend and will let you know if I get anywhere.

Well I've tried all available .jffs2's here http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...tobuild/collie/
and my collie doesn't flash them, just the kernel, definitely renamed .jffs2 correctly to initrd.bin.
As these appear to be the only Angstroms currently available can anybody provide me with a link to a version that they know works so that I can rule out user error on my part?
I suppose really that I should join the mailing lists etc over on Angstrom before I get flamed by a dev.

@Charlie: Try the latest altboot installkit tgz from 06-feb, right near the top of the page. Remember to rename zImage.bin to zImage. It still freezes midway through boot but I can use altboot to let me get a shell. I will poke around and post my results.

Update: apparently ipkg-cl configure fails on boot. I'm not sure if this is enough to make it not boot or if there is another issue. trying to ipkg install foo.ipk results in a segmentation fault as well. No ideas right now.
