Msn Messenger On Pdaxii13
« on: February 28, 2008, 07:29:23 pm »
Hi everyone,

This is my first post, but I thought it worth mentioning, since it is a workaround solution to a common problem.

I've been very happy with pdaXii13, it does everything I need it to do except let my use MSN Messenger (because of the difficulty with gaim/pidgin handling SSL).

HOWEVER, I was able to log into MSN Messenger and use it normally (although it takes a while to load up) through Firefox 1.5 at the Web Messenger site.

Background:
1. Make sure you allow popups in Firefox settings.
2. You have to click the 'I want to.. send an instant message' option in the command window of the main MSN popup to initiate messaging. It then carries on like MSN Messenger normally does on a windows machine. When I first tried this, I just double-clicked a user to send a message and Firefox crashed, probably because the site sent me too many popup warnings.
3. I have openssl-0.9.7.c and gnutls-1.6.1 installed, but I don't know if that made any difference.

Anyways, I hope this is a decent workaround for those who actually have a need to hop on MSN Messenger once in a while.

I have installed pidgin_2.0.2_1_armv5tel.ipk and gaim 2.0.0-beta5 on c3200 with pdaxii13 5.4.9. My problem is that both want ssl library.     so why?

Have you installed libssl? I suspect it needs it for secure chatting or some such thing, maybe authentication. It's a fairly common dep for internet apps.
