ip address in zaurus
« on: March 27, 2004, 01:28:39 pm »
I\'m using the ad-hoc connection between sl5600 and xp. Internet works fine. Xp\'s ip address is 192.168.0.1 and i\'ve  set sl5600s ip address to  \"get ip automatically\"

If I\'m forcing some ip address like 192.168.0.5 to zaurus, it does not work. Now i\'m not able to recognize what ip address the zaurus has.

Thanks for help.

Type ifconfig to check IP for interface.
Type route to see the route table.

The WinXP address of 192.168.x.x doesn\'t look like a zeroconf (automagically assigned) address. If it were it would on the 169.154.x.x subnet. In any case unless you\'ve installed Howl or similar on your 5600 it won\'t be able to grab an address (though XP can).

If your 5600 is set to \'get ip automatically\' then it\'s probably looking for a DHCP server. Do you have one running on your XP box? If not you\'ll need to manually assign addresses to both sides.

What do you mean by it doesn\'t work? What doesn\'t work?

I think he may be trying to use ICS internet connection sharing with XP.  I would be shocked if you could get it to work right without a DHCP server.  Maybe download a free Proxy server http://www.servlet.com/soho2/register.jhtml and try Ethernet over USB is always an option... http://www.zyxt.org/zaurus/winethernetusb.html

By your command...

check out NAT32 ... it\'s a windows dhcp server and nat server....   My desktop is connect to a wireless G network... I use nat32 running to assign my Z + others ip addresses, and forward to my regualr router..  you\'ll need two seperate LAN cards in your windows machine.
