Can\'t get usb net driver to load...
« on: March 30, 2004, 12:52:28 am »
I just got my Z.  After several attempts to get it to sync properly, I finally figured out that I can sync directly from Lotus notes to my networked 5500.  I thought I had to go from Notes -] Qtopia Desktop -] Zaurus (and vice versa).

Anyway, in the process of figuring this out, I must have installed and uninstalled the Windows USB drivers for the Zaurus 15 times.  At some point along the way, Win2k stopped asking about the USB network driver.  And now, no matter what I do, I can\'t get it to install that driver.  Additionally, when I plug the Z into the cradle and turn it on, Win2k pops up the hardware detection routine (which says that it\'s detected an SL-5500), but when I try to tell it to use a particular driver, it won\'t.

The long and short is that somehow I\'ve fubared the driver configuration of Windows.  And I can\'t get it to work anymore.  I\'ve tried uninstalling the drivers using the standard uninstall wizards, etc.  And I\'ve gone into device manager and removed the devices from there.  Any suggestions as to what I should do to get this to work?  I\'m currently syncing using a wired CF network card.  I\'d like to sync over USB net.

Advice?

In Win2K, try going into the Device Manager and check the View ] Show Hidden Devices option.  Then, expand the Network Adapters to reveal one or more SL Series (NDIS 5) devices.  Right click on each of them and choose \"Uninstall...\".

After rebooting, your system should recognize the Zaurus as a new device.

Additionally, make sure that the Zaurus Manager application on your PC and the PC Link applet on the Zaurus are set to the same communication type -- ie: either USB-I/O or USB-TCP/IP.  In order to get the drivers to install properly, you may have to start with them both set to USB-I/O, then change it to USB-TCP/IP as a second step (which will install a second driver).

Also, Win2K is pretty picky about USB devices -- always use the \"Unplug or Eject Hardware\" toolbar applet to \"Stop\" the device before removing the Zaurus from its cradle or turning it off.  Otherwise, you\'ll need to reboot Win2K before it will recognize the Zaurus a second time.
