Hello All,

I\'m unable to bring up ftp service in my Z-5600. I could bring up my telnet and logon to it remotely.

I\'ve enabled ftp service by uncommenting the corresponding line in /etc/inetd.conf file and restarted the inet service.

I did come across a posting which says that ftp in Zaurus by default runs on port 4242 I tried that also.

Can somebody help me here please.

openssh!!! (note the multiple !)
then ssh in place of telnet and use scp to transfer files

I would add a footnote to grey_moon\'s post. PureFTPd is very tiny compared to OpenSSH. If you are not using FTP to connect across the Internet to your Zaurus, and only using FTP on your local network between machines, then there is absolutely no security issue. FTP and Telnet pass plain text passwords if you were worried about it. I might add that the mail client on your Zaurus does as well if you are using POP3. Keep that in mind.

Thank you all!

Will try installing pureFTPd (I guess, it\'s already there). But as per tumnus, 5600 doesn\'t support FTP, I assume that it (ftp) is by default not supported, but we can install and configure on our own.

dot, any suggestions before installing pureFTPd on 5600?

It already has Samba, why not use that?

Thanks to all again!

I did the following to install pureFTPd on my Z-SL-5600 with default Sharp ROM:

Downloaded it in .ipk form. Used standard package installer to install. Replaced
/fcpd <tab> in.ftpd

with

/pure-ftpd

in the /etc/inetd.conf file to which you referred. Uncommented the line. Then:

killall -HUP inetd

I know that\'s a little vague. If you want more clarification, feel free to ask. I kept written instructions from when I did it. It works. Someone from this group gave me some of the instructions.

Thanks a lot to everyone! I did download Pure-FTP and installed and was able to connect from my linux & windows box via intranet.

Thanks Tumnus, I could have tried with Samba, but wanted to use ftp too. Thanks for updating the FAQ for Samba and FTP.

Thanks Clintreese and dot for sharing the information.

Things are getting excited will try out more things on my little Z.
