Andronix brings Linux to the Cosmo

Well, no need to wait for the Linux port - AndroNix installs and works fine on the Cosmo. It's on sale at the moment as well. Got it running Ubuntu 19 and KDE (other distros and desktops are available) via VNC. Root not required.
You have to up the font size, but perfectly usable. Got Thunderbird, Chrome, Firefox, Filezilla, LAMP, LibreOffice, GIMP etc running well.

I used to use gnuroot debian before on previous phone, and chroot install of stock debian even before that. Now gnuroot seem to be superseded by UserLAnd which I never tested extensively since it beta stage. So if you had any experience with any of above can you compare what are advantages of AndroNix with regards to those?

Also I see that AndroNix use in app purchases and you mention current sale. What is exactly this sale for, what is the usual price, what does in app purchase gives you?

BTW, PC just posted new update on their linux multiboot solution. I am still not decided if multiboot is better option for day to day use compared to rootless linux distro install on native android

The problem with UserLAnd, Andronix, Termux, etc. is that they all use PRoot, which is already expensive from a performance perspective. This means that your battery life is worse, and there are limitations. Given the portability of the device I'd much rather dual-boot into Linux as and when I need to.

It depends on what are your needs, because Termux works without rooting and is as such pretty useful for development and other text or spreadsheet tasks at the price of changing some habits in order to adapt to the command line. You can even install a LAMP stack without rooting your phone, not bad.

Yes, not bad, but defeats the purpose (at least my purpose). I want to get rid of whole Android thing. Andronix is like poking your nose with a glove on

Something is better than nothing in most  cases, but I think for the majority who are and have been interested in this line for the multiboot, Termux and other chroot style solutions are far too primitive to be anything more than a placeholder, except where the specific toolset fits the need.  Most of us have active Termux installations, its far from a substitute for even Gemian TP2, which while having its faults, is still vastly superior.
