Have Linux on Cosmo Now - Best Way to Install New Version
« on: July 27, 2020, 03:02:58 pm »
Hi,

Have Linux and Android on Cosmo now.

Have updated firmware and CoDi to current versions.

What is best way to install new linux version?

Should I do everything listed in Planet's instructions or can I do just part of the items listed?

Don't want to mess up my Cosmo if possible.

Thank you for your input.

If you have already partitioned your cosmo ( android and linux partition with linux installed  ) , just install the new version of linux  .  You will loose your previous linux installation and everything in your linux installation  ( as the script writes in that partition with dd ). Please select the correct partition to avoid brick your phone.
Or you can just update and upgrade  your linux and follow the post install documentation ( internet data with sim card ). In my case I have my own compiled kernel and everything works fine. To internet with sim card work I had to extract the new linux image firmware and mount it . So I have copied the contents of /etc/ofono ( from that new image ) to my system ( /etc/ofono ). Please install  connman cmst mobile-broadband-provider-info ofono-scripts before removing network-manager and plasma-nm. Just disable network-manager and test cmst ( connman ). After this remove it. Please see http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Cosmo_Linux_Mobile_Data.

THANK YOU for your input, cam1965!

Yes, already partitioned Cosmo and have android and linux running.

By "Or you can just update and upgrade your linux....", you mean by using 'apt-get' ?

yes . apt-get update and upgrade. Install the latest kernel also . Aptitude search cosmo and you will see the kernel and kernel headers. ( I am not in linux now to tell you the correct name ). As I remember cosmo-linux-kernel and cosmo-linux-kernel-headers. This is not my case. I have my own compiled kernel. I have a lot of installed apps and didnt  want to erase all my installed apps including exagear, games and notation music software. Also compiled apps and all my configurations including my keyboard with accents and much more.
