Android update not found
« on: September 07, 2021, 02:02:54 am »
When I check for updates with wireless upgrade, I get the message "Already the latest version" and cannot update.

When I checked the Planet website, it seems that it has been released up to v25 as of March 22, 2021.
https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Latest_Cosmo_Firmware

How can I update it?
If you have other similar symptoms, please let me know the solution.

Current version: Cosmo-9.0-Planet-10292019-V15. <20191029_1401>

I think there's a couple of alternatives if the auto update isn't working for some reason.
If you're in the wireless update screen and you tap on the setting symbol top right, there's a option there for 'Local update', if you've got the 'Updatepackage.zip', but I don't know where you get this package from.
Another option may be with recovery mode following the instructions here:  'https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Rooted_Android_For_Cosmo' but I'm not sure if you need to have a rooted Cosmo for this approach to work.
Or you may just need to leave your wireless update screen open for a while to give it time to check in.
Sorry I can't be of more help, I haven't use android for some time.

My best guess is that the OTA updater's current implementation is incompatible with V15 (which is very old).

I'd suggest contacting Planet support and ask them about getting the firmware files for manual update. They do not indeed seem to be publicly available.

I tried v21 local update, but it failed due to an error probably because it is not V20 firmware.
https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/FotaUpdate_v20

In v15 recovery mode,
・ Change the partition table of your COSMO
・ Install custom OS on your COSMO
It is not possible to execute because there is no item of.

Thank you very much.

Contact Planet Support and ask about getting firmware files for manual updates as well.

I can't expect it because I didn't get a reply about not finding the update ...

Thank you very much.

How did you contact Planet? I contacted via this form at https://store.planetcom.co.uk/pages/contact-us and got immediate reply about Zendesk ticket creation, and got a reply within 24 hours (although they do say on the page that it might take a few days to respond).

I'd recommend using the webform, that way it's not an issue with Planet's spam filter. And like I said, you do get immediate, automated acknowledgement.

I had reported it on smartsheet.
https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Cosmo_Troubleshooting

I contacted you from the form you taught me and received an automatic reply email for the time being.

appreciate.

Thank you for your reply despite the English translation.

Hi,
I've been in conversation with Planet support for a month or so about just this issue. In my case I've been trying to help my brother out, as he wasn't using his Cosmo at the time they did the switch over from V15 firmware to V16 and ditched the OTA provider they'd been using (which is why you can't get any OTA updates if you are still on V15). Here is the last response they sent us. I haven't yet followed these instructions as my brother's Cosmo is with him and he wants me to help hold his hand while he goes through the business of flashing the thing. But this looks as though it should work.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on. (I'll try and remember to do the same when I see my brother and give this a go. There must be quite a few people caught out by this problem, which is why I was astonished I needed so much to-ing and fro-ing with Planet to get this set of instructions from them.)
Cheers,
Ian

I quote:

Please follow the manual recovery steps here - https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/TWRP_Manual_Recovery . This should update you to v23 at least, and from there OTAs should hopefully resume on your device.

If this doesn't fix the issue, we'd then definitely need you to send the device to us. Should it come to that, please summarise in simple bullet points if any extra servicing is necessary, in addition the OTAs fix.
Feel free to let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

Kind regards,
Customer Care Team

I had not stumbled on that page in their support wiki. But based on this you do not even need TWRP if you can just get to the basic recovery.

Just grab the image and follow the instructions: https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Cosmo_Android_Firmware_Manual_Installation

You'll lose all data on the device since it requires repartitioning the device at least for the duration of the installation...

I can further update you that on Monday (yesterday) my brother came round with his Cosmo and we prepared to follow the instructions as above to refresh the latest version. However, before doing so I checked the OTA update and this time it found an OTA update. So after installing that (and a further two OTA updates that then appeared) and updating the CoDi, it was finally up to date. Maybe Planet did something over the last week or two to make the OTA updates work again for people with the older v15 and earlier firmwares.

Anyway, thought it might be of help to encourage you to try the OTA one more time just in case.
