You need POP or IMAP access for the email application and Hotmail offers neither. There is \'hotway\' which you run on your local host (would be Zaurus in this case) and it acts like a POP3/IMAP/SMTP server that transparently fetches and sends hotmail email. I haven\'t seen anyone compile it for the Zaurus yet though.

If you go to http://www.hotmail.com with Opera 6 you should get a mobile version of Hotmail BTW.

hold on. there definitely was imap access a year ago. I remember when you go to create a new email account in outlook it lets you set up a hotmail one and it gives you the imap settings. I think though it\'s just www.hotmail.com at the imap port 143?

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

Outlook has a special plugin for Hotmail that uses a propriertary HTTP based protocol, not IMAP. Some developers reverse-engineered that to produce hotway. hotway might compile for the Zaurus without problems, I haven\'t tried.

How about Outlook directly?  Can the Zaurus view e-mail from an exchange server?  How would you do that (settings) and which zaurus e-mail programs would support that?  (I currently only have Zaurus SL-C860 QTopia Default e-mail program).

You could always try cross-compiling hotwayd for the ARM, and running that, then all you would need is a POP3 mail client on the Z.

But Exchange doesn\'t support POP3.  Does Hotwayd support the proprietary Microsoft Exchange protocols?

argh.... give up on exchange already.
have it support stardard protocols, or forget it.

expand your mind.

stop conforming.

I push for standard options, such as POP3, and Linux... but I get paid at work and they define the rules I have to conform to.  I am trying to push the issue of getting POP3 support, but in the meantime I still need to get my work done.

We have our own wishes as to the way the world should be, but in the meantime we still need to be able to interact with the rest of the world... even the MS-ites.

Would YOU quit YOUR job simply because they only support proprietary MS protocols?  ..especially considering the job market today?  I have little choice in the matter... so I still look for exchange support on my Linux apps so that I can use my Zaurus at my job.

...but I feel your pain and frustration.  I feel it too..

Does anyone know if the new \"GMail\" from google will have an IMAP or POP3 or open HTTP protocol.
This could be a hotmail killer -- 1GB of storage and Google search on your mailbox!

Not sure if it would work in your situation...but I use gotmail on my Linux box.  It downloads and forwards my Hotmail to another e-mail address.
