Any have the Motorola V600 working with the Z?
« on: May 07, 2004, 11:22:58 am »
I destroyed my SE T610 while on vacation.  On an impluse, I picked up a Motorola V600 to replace it.  Little did I know that the phone is not compatible with OS X/iSync and the Clie.

I was wondering if people have been having similar problems with the V600 on the Z?  Motorola tech supp have not been very helpful in setting up the phone for dial-up or SMS... apparently they only have scripts for Windows.  However, I did get the impression from the instructions that separate software was required to enable dialup networking for this phone.

In the meantime, I picked up a SE Z600, but it sucks compared to the V600.  Both have bad WAP browsers (Z600 supports WAP 2.0 only and the V600 has problems with Yahoo! Mail), and the SEZ600 just seems cheap compared to the V600.

If anyone has the V600 working with zSMS and dial-up networking on the Z, please let me know how you did it.

Thanks
Curt

P.S.  Anyone know of a good GUI SMS utility for the C series?  I downloaded one, but it looked like it was made for the SL series and it didn\'t seem to work well.  Can\'t remember the name of the util, though, I had used.

I just got GPRS networking setup on a Motorola V500 (which as I understand it uses the same underlying system to the V600) from my C860. I\'m using Cacko Qtopia 1.21 with hotfix 1.21a, and connecting via a Socket BT CF card (rev G, so I installed bluez-csr-serial as well). Setup was all via the Network program\'s Dial-up (BlueTooth) section. I\'m using Orange GPRS, which needed Phone entry of *99***1#, Init string of ATZ and a search for the BT DUN at the same time as activating the V500\'s \"Find Me\" option (under Settings/Connection/Bluetooth). After that, I could connect (although the phone doesn\'t make GPRS active until you start up a Network Application. For some reason, the IP and DNS settings don\'t kick in until this happens i.e. you can\'t pin from a console after you\'re first connected, which confused me for ages!). I\'ve had no problems since then with Netfront, Opera, SSH, etc. Haven\'t tried anything with SMS as yet...
