« on: June 11, 2004, 05:33:41 am »

I\'ve try to modify inittab (set runlevel 3 insted of 5) on my sl6000 but Zaurus seems to ignore this....

On the other models, probably will work for the 6k, change /home/sharp/etc/launch.default to a symlink to something that doesn\'t exist, (e.g. /xxx).

Simply setting this won\'t work (it is the letter for the launch menu, typically \'q\') because /root/etc/rc.d/rc.rofilesys will do an \"echo q \" to that file and will create or overwrite it.  Making it a directory or a symlink to a nonexistent directory will give the menu for 5 seconds, where you can hit a to launch a shell.

changing this to \'i\' and doing a chflags -i might also work, but I haven\'t tried it.

I remove launch.default and i create a sym link to a fake dir (ln -s /fake launch.conf)
But when i restart my Zaurus , it dosent give me the menu...it gives me an error ad then start qtopia
Where is the mistake ?
i try to modify /root/etc/rc.d/rc.rofilesys too but i cannot save it !
Please can tell me te rigth procedure ? It is important for me starting my Z in text mode...

I think you need to hit the slash key first to get to the menu.

The wait should say what key to hit (I don\'t know if you need to do shift-/ or just the key)

Will rebooting with D+B held do what you need? You would have to mount your NAND root & home manually if you need to access them, but you will be in console only.

I don\'t think DB (for diagnostic menu or whatever) would work.

It is the fore-slash key, but I don\'t think I needed to hit shift on my c760.

If you can get to the waiting.. you just need to hit this to get to the menu, then a to the console.  You might also be able to do echo a ]launch.default and then chattr -i launch.default (set immutable bit), but it is better to leave the menu.

Some of them might be the keys that start applications.  The tab is there (next to the function key).  shift or function-shift may generate control characters.  Since I have only the 5500 and C760, I don\'t know, other than there were ways to generate all but one or two ASCII keystrokes with various combinations.  Some are at http://www.jmurffandgizmod.com/files/ZKeys.txt and there was a zaurus dev document for the 5500 listing them all.

Its D+M that gets the Diags Menu, tz.

*D+B* gets a command line running from a different boot area.

You might ought to try it & really understand what I said rather than just dismissing it without thinking.

I apologize.  I didn\'t mean to dismiss it and was too terse (I\'m often taking a break at work so I have to hit keys and run).  But  if DB gets a shell from a different boot area, it might not start up or have access to /root and /home and the other devices, at least without doing a lot of commands.

De nada, amigo. No problem. Yes, you have to run a few commands to get the \"normal\" root & home mounted, but they could be set into a shell for automation.

Better still, CF & SD cards automount, so one could put everything needed on a card & run totally independent of the NAND system.

(G) Yeh, I have to do the \"type & run\" myself (like today)! Understood.

Reboot holding D+B (you don\'t need to pull the batteries & flip the switch first; any reboot will do .. at least on my C860). Once the initital bootup white screen comes up, release the keys & you should get a black field at the bottom with boot info & then a login prompt. Just root & enter and youre running clean on console (G).

The commands to mount the \"regular\" root & home are somewhere in threads here, but I can summerize them if you want.

Hope this is of some help & use.

From a terminal, issue commands:

echo a ] /home/sharp/etc/launch.default

killall qpe

This yields a text-only command line.
