Pretec wifi and C860 - Help Needed
« on: June 17, 2004, 07:21:52 am »
This is my first post, so hello everyone.

I\'ve had a new C860 for about 6-8 weeks now. By using the search on this forum I\'ve been able to solve my own problems ... until now

I bought a Pretec CF 802.11b card yesterday for my Z. I am trying to connect to an ASUS Digimatrix XP box which has built in wifi on a mini pci card.

I have done the following

1. inserted card in Z - light blinks
2. used network software which comes with Cacko rom (1.21b)
3. added a wireless lan service on the Z using ESS-ID \"any\"

attempted to connect. card flashes and appears to be attempting connection but after a while the connection fails.

4. added the following from another post (by maslovsy) to /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf

card \"Pretec CompactWLAN Card 802.11b\"
manfid 0x0156, 0x0002
bind \"prism2_cs\"

This didn\'t help.

The card is setup on XP using the ASUS utility as ...

SoftAP with internet connection sharing and firewall enabled. SSID = any, channel = 1.

The only other thing I can think of is that in the Digimatrix BIOS, it had settings for \"Radio\" .... US, Europe and a handful of others (I\'m in Australia ... not listed in the bios) The Digimatrix also has a built-in AM/FM tuner so I\'m not sure what the settings relate to.

Sorry for the long post. Hope someone can help.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the reply. I will try pdaxrom. I have used 1.0.5 prior to getting my pretec card and had trouble with screen calibration on the C860. I found a fix for that in a thread here but was waiting for a new version of pdaxrom rather than do it myself. I\'ll give it a go and see what happens.

Would be nice to get it working with a Sharp based rom though.

Hi again,

Well, I\'ve got a connection to the wireless in the digimatrix from my C860 but can\'t connect to the internet via my shared XP dial-up.

Looking at the wireless connection on XP, even though the connection is up, XP isn\'t receiving any data from the Z.

I used manual settings I found in a wireless faq for the SL6000 that I found here on the ZUG. I set up an adhoc connection on Z and XP and set IP, subnet mask, gateway and DNS as they were in the faq.

I have no idea what any of those settings actually mean and I guess they are wrong?

I hope someone can help me move this on just a bit further!

Thanks

Hi scoutme,

Interesting. I am using C860, Cacko 1.21b. Pretec Wifi card is the current model (I think.) Is that your setup?

Are you connecting to an XP box? If so, how is your XP wireless configured?

I would be grateful for any details, even if you think they should be obvious. I'm not clued up on this stuff. I'm probably doing this all wrong!

Many thanks,

Mark

I've had approx the same problem with an asus cf card which finally got to work only with channel 11 .... maybe you can try setting your AP to different channels. I have absolutely no idea about why is it happening and if it could solve your problem but may worth a few tries.
SL-C3000 - pdaXrom 1.1.0Beta1
SL-C860 - pdaXrom 1.1.0 RC8 (charging circuitry dead :( )
CF RamStar 512 Mb / Hitachi 4Gb microdrive (thanks to creative's muvo² :p)
SD Sandisk 1Gb / Viking 256 Mb
Linksys WCF13 CF wifi card

Anyone willing to donate for my work, please consider donate to pdaXrom and/or OE/OZ projects instead, I wouldn't have been able to do anything without them ...

I'm connecting my sl-c860 + pretec at a usr8054 turbo wifi router access point.

I didn't configure anything, simply inserted the card in the zaurus. At the connection request the card found the access point and automatically connected.

Now I made static the settings through the network app, and gave the card a valid ip and my router ip as gateway and dns

(OT: I uninstalled the terminal and the ipkg doesn't work anymore: how ca I reinstall the terminal??? PLEASE HELP ME)
