Installing Cacko ROM for 5500
« on: July 07, 2004, 08:03:17 am »
Hello all,

I've recently been running in to RAM problems with the TKC rom, which I've used for quite a long time now, but it looks like i'm becoming a more demanding user...

So I would quite like to switch to the Cacko rom (sl5500_cacko_beta-2.4.18) which I downloaded from this site, and allows home on SD. However it says to go to the Crow rom page of instructions on how to install it, and the Crow rom page doesn't extist any more....

Any suggestions on how to install it?

Thanks
Cozz

Hi Cozz,

have you considered using the TKCROM 3 Alpha with the home on SD script? You can find them in the ZUG download area? They work well for me.

Cheers

Cozz, do a search for the Cacko rom & check out the downloads section, your answer is there

Hi,

I managed to find the download files no porblem. But there is only the zimage and the initrd files, nothing about how to do the home on SD (I've reflashed before several time no problems- but never home on SD).

I could find anything about how to install it with home on SD on the boards. Could someone perhaps point me to a 'how to' or something?

Thanks
Coz

There is a thread about the Cacko modified kernel for 64-0 memory layout on the 5500 .

Here is the ROM you have to flash before flashing the new kernel, 2nd itme down,

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...download&sid=30

Here is the updated kernel, the 2nd item is for /home on SD,

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...download&sid=38

Relevant thread,

https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...3&hl=cacko+5500

Make sure you read ALL of the instructions before you do the flashing.  As with flashing any ROM or kernel, missing a step or messing it up will cause a problem, & could brick your Zaurus.

Is there any way to flash it without SD? I'm on stage of console, after "flashing it through CF" Cacko 1.2.3 it seems. I'll try to see start scripts, but i'm not sure if there'll be enough space ). If not, need to buy a cardreader & SD at once ).
Och, vi won't start cause "can't create temporary file, errno=2"
