Serial Port Pinout needed 4 project
« on: August 15, 2004, 07:03:28 am »
Hi,

does anyone know the serial port pinout of the sharp plug?  I'm going to do a final year project and try to have the Z as a screen for an instrumentation system connected to a microcontroller via the serial.

Also, has anyone ever tried using a mouse over serial in X/QT?
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

There's diagram available on the devnet part of the Sharp website.

Have you tried a search on the devnet - people were talking about lots of this kind of stuff back then.

I think the Wiki has the pinout.  The big problem is that it is TTL signal levels, and most mice won't run without more voltage and current.

If it is TTL levels, then this is perfect for my Microcontroller programmer that i wish to connect (see other post).  Regarding the mouse, all that should be needed is a MAX232 to convert to/from true RS232. will have a look - thanks!

Numbering of the male connector (that is plugged into Zaurus):

1,2 - PWR(+)
3 - TXD
4 - RXD
5 - RTS
6 - CTS
7 - DSR
8 - GND
9 - USB data plus
10 - marked as "WakeUP" in original document,
it should be CD or RI
11 - Vcc (3.3v)
12 - USB data minus
13 - free
14 - DTR
15,16 - PWR(-)

The numbers are printed on the little board the connector is mounted upon
(at least in my case)

I've been trying to get a mouse working in X/QT (thought not very hard).  I found some posts on the ZUG that pdaXrom have their mouse working.  I suppose the question is whether the X/QT developer has support for built in.  I'll try some more this weekend to see whether I can get a USB mouse working with my 6000.
