How to get Wireless CF cards to work
« on: August 18, 2004, 11:59:28 am »
This may belong in the 'newbie' forum.

I just got a Netgear MA701 card from a friend and I want to get it working with my 5500 running the Sharp Rom 3.10.

What I'm looking for is step-by-step instructions on how to do this.  Now I've looked around and found a few web pages with info but I'm still not confident about what I'm doing and haven't yet been successful.

Is anyone aware of an idiot-proof resource that explains how to set this up (and WHY each step is important?)

Something written for someone who's new to Linux and the Zaurus and doesn't know their IwConfig from their Kismet.

The following seemed like they *would* be helpful links if I knew what I was doing.

The MA701 should work right out of the box (the Z should detect it right away). If it doesnt then follow these instructions:

this is located in the HOW-TO section of ZUG

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...lessCardSupport

go read the "other cards" section if your card is not recognized as soon as you plug it in.

Do you need help on how to setup a wireless connection and/or how to connect to an AP?

As Jchung said, MA701 works out of the box, I myself use this card.

Setup is pretty straightforward. Go to 'Settings' tab and tap on 'Network' icon. Tap on 'New' button, select 'Wireless LAN' from the list and tap 'Add' button, then enter SSID and WEP information in the respective fields. After you are done you will see a 'globe' icon in the task bar. Tap on the globe, select the account you just created and tap connect.

Fantastic! I'm posting this from my Z.

Thanks for your help. I guess I mistakenly assumed it would be more difficult.

Next steps are Kismet and an IM client. Hope they're as straightforward.
