Proxy using TCP/IP over usb
« on: August 24, 2004, 08:12:18 am »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to  configure usb tcp-ip to use proxy for browsing the web ?

I have a C860 with Cacko 1.21B, and cannot  configure it to use proxy when using USB TCP/IP.

I can do using wireless LAN, and in fact anything else.

Please help.

Thanks.

Isn't being chained to another host via USB going to limit your mobility ??

But seriously there are a few things...

i. Get your host to route and NAT or proxy.
ii. Either set the default gatway to your router (host) or point the browser at the proxy on your host.
iii. You need to tell Qtopia that the network is up, most Qtopia apps don't just try to network they ask Qtopia if the network is up and since Qtopia doesn't recognise USB as a network is says no. - Unfortunately I can't remember the qcop command to do this, anyone else remember ?

Yes, it is going to limit my mobility, that is because I want to use the zaurusa to download files at work, and IT does not allow the Zaurus to be part of the network, and would not set up a route to my subnet.

Therefore, using proxy is my best bet.

I managed to get wget to talk to the proxy.

I think  what I need is the qcop command.

At home, I bridge Zaurus NDIS to my home network, and even without a proxy, opera works.

OK, I think this is what you need..

Bring up a terminal as zaurus (I think from other posts) on the Z then...

qcop QPE/Network "up()"

See if this works...
