Carrying case for the C860
« on: August 25, 2004, 07:10:18 pm »
Any place in the U.S. to get a decent carrying case for the C860?  I see one at :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5716624768&rd=1

But it's expensive and I'd rather not import if I can avoid it.

Thanks.

I bought this case a few months ago and it's worked out pretty well. One of the small plastic clips at the front has broken off, but the main ones at the back are still there.

When it breaks, I'll go naked or get the extreme case (I htink that's what its called).

See Lisa's review at pdabuyersguide for details.

Thanks for the referal  Our case review is at http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/Zaurus_...accessories.htm . Though it's bulky, I really like the Extreme Limit case and that's the one I mainly use. Lots of protection and style, but like I said, bulky.

Piel Frama does also sell a very nice case for the C860. Unfortunately I run into some problem using it. Which means that I cannot close the shell. Anyone got the same case and not this problem?

It looks like all of these don't have a belt loop.  Anything out there with a belt loop, or better yet since the cases wrap around the PDA itself, a belt clip?

Ooh,

Don't like the look of that.. does that not strain the hinge mechanism when you close the snaps on the case ?

Well I cannot close it, therefore I do not use it. I will try to get a fix...

I would recommend the Extreme Limit case from Japan.  It's very nice!

I use a GrinderGear Basecamp for my 860. You have to remove it to use, but the case is well built and provides a decent amount of space for accessories.

I bought a case from Krusell for my SL-5500.  I have been fairly pleased with it in that it has saved me from my clumsiness.  I must have dropped that thing at least10 times...luckily no damage to my Z.  The case and clip system is good for carrying your Z on your belt.  The clip system is rugged and convenient.  I prefer the horizontal belt postion of the Horizontic model since it matches my cellular carrying case.   Incidentally, the clip was not involved in any of my "dropsy" incidents.  I bought a separate small case for my peripherals which I carry in my brief case.

When the new Z (SL-C960?) comes out, I will buy another Krusell case.

You know, I haven't bought a case yet because the Zaurus is best used OUTSIDE of a case. I have tried to find a slip case to provide added protection while transporting the Z in my ballistic nylon computer case.  I've looked at camera cases and was close to buying a generic Targus flap-style slip case for PDAs that fit pretty well, but I think it was something like $20 U.S. and I thought the case wasn't worth the cost. Of course, $20 isn't much compared to the cases discussed in this thread and in light of what it cost to import the Z, it is a pittance. I think I have convinced myself to go pick one up!

I didn't like any of the cases that attached to the Zaurus. All of them seemed to make it too bulky. I have two cases that I like: one is the PDA Holster Clip Case (see it here) by NiteIze. It's a heavy duty nylon and has a sturdy plastic belt clip.

The other one is from CaseLogic (see it here) and is available in a blue/black nylon (PLT 10) or a black "koskin" (PLTK 10). This one is a little deep (maybe 3/8 inch) for the Zaurus, but still works well. It has a snapped belt loop.

Both are priced less than $20.

I bought a camera case from Japan (Yodobashi Camera) that I think works very well.  The manufacturer is "COMSTYLE", and their big selling point is their "DUAL GUARD SYSTEM".  They also make notebook covers as well.  Basically they have a neoprene style black material in dual densities - a harder external shell, and a softer internal lining.  It's black, has a good sized flap secured with velcro, has a belt loop and even a little internal pouch for a spare CF memory or wireless card.  The size of the one I have fits the c860 perfectly, and provides excellent protection.  I don't know if these cases are marketed outside of Japan, but there must be similar cases around...
